Meet Sarah Elizabeth Ashwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Elizabeth Ashwood.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Southern California with no formal art training but started painting/drawing at the age of 8. I got a “9-5” job out of college and was never satisfied with what I was offering to society, I knew I was meant for more.

On January 26, 2018, I left my day job for the last time to pursue a life of a freelance, traveling artist. I now split my time between Seattle and SoCal, I’ve taught over 35 private public art events in 6 states and counting. I regularly show my work in local galleries, art shows, and I live paint on stage with musicians, “painting their songs”.

I’m not sure what the future holds but I’m currently in talks with 2 different nonprofit organizations and working on fulfilling my dreams of reconnecting humanity through community-based creative events. I can’t wait to see these amazing things continue to come to life!

So, if you see me on stage or live painting outside in a local venue or park, please say hello, I’d love to connect!

Please tell us about your art.
I tell a story with my artwork. I’ve especially been enjoying painting outside and interpreting the moment in nature as I feel it around me.

Similar to this, I also paint music (I hear songs, see images and turn that into a piece of artwork) usually live during a music performance of some kind.

I have always wanted to figure out a way to make a difference with my talent, so about a year ago, I started to teach art events In breweries, wineries, and other local public venues, this has created a monumental shift in my art career and I have made it my mission is to reconnect humanity through community-based art events.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Take risks, be authentic, and find your “thing” that is your own contribution to society.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Online is the best place to find my work.

I will be doing a local art show in Seattle with RAW Artists in September and another in SoCal date: TBD.
