Meet Sarah McGarry of Skin By Sarah in Encinitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah McGarry.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from Brazil and I came over 7 years ago in 2010.  I haven’t been in the USA before.

Once I arrived, I don’t know how to speak English and had my son with me. 3 days after, I figured out I was pregnant and because of that I had to put my dreams of pursuing a career on hold.

Back home, I got my degree in Business Administration but couldn’t use it here.

18 months passed by, I had my baby and decided to look for a beauty school, I got inspired by an esthetician that waxed me and I thought “I can do that.”

After several failed English assessment tests to engage in beauty school, I finally passed in one and I had to figure things out.

It was hard to be in school and don’t speak the language but I put all my effort.

Once I graduated, I went to work for a famous company of waxing and couldn’t keep the job because I wasn’t able to memorize the script (was a requirement of the franchise).

Frustrated and and disappointed, I shook it off and decided to open my own company named Skin By Sarah.

Ran a Groupon deal for facial, sold over 200, and rented a small room twice a week .

Persistent, I grew Skin By Sarah and I have been in busy for over 6 years now and I got two studios and an employee.

Now besides being an Esthetician I’m also doing facials, waxing, permanent make-up artist with emphasis on Microblading .

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
