Today we’d like to introduce you to Savanna Aragon Allen.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started at Paul Mitchell the School San Diego. I became a PMTS student in 2007, and graduated with the required 1600 hours, receiving my cosmetology license in 2008. For about 4 years I worked in and out of salons around San Diego County providing cut and color for my clientele. I also spent some time working at the dry bar in Del Mar which I actually thoroughly enjoyed. Little did I know, this was the place that would introduce me to the wedding world. With the high volume of clientele coming in for blowouts I was able to meet many different vendors who worked within the wedding industry. I started doing my research and found a company that showed me a little bit about how hair and makeup work in the wedding world. I instantly fell in love with the industry.
After free-lancing, for about 2 years I founded A Toast to Beauty in 2015. I loved getting the chance to explore new venues and hotels. There were so many gorgeous parts of San Diego I had never even seen before. But the part that truly got me hooked, was seeing how happy my brides were on their wedding day when they look into the mirror and see their beauty visions brought to life. My heart was overflowing! It was not long at that moment that I decided my vision was to bring that happiness to all brides who sit in our chair and to be the leading wedding and event beauty company in Southern California. I have found my true passion and have mastered my technique. And with that, I have built a talented team of hairstylists and makeup artists that have been hand-selected to join myself in accomplishing this vision.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever perfect or a piece of cake. In this industry, there is a lot of trial and error. Running a business is a whole business in itself. Throw hair, makeup, clients, employees, payroll, scheduling, taxes, etc. (this list goes on) into the mix and sometimes you wonder why you started a business in the first place.
The pros outweigh the cons 1000% however, it can definitely be a bumpy road. I’ll give an example of difficulties when first starting a new business. The first thing is, not having the ability/finances to take on your new business full time. In the beginning, it is hard to juggle a full time job and build your business. Building a business takes A LOT of time to network, research, build a website, find a business name, figure out your logo, your brand, what your mission is, what makes you stand out etc. Needless to say, your brain never shuts off when you are creating this new baby you call your business. So I would definitely say that the beginning stages are the most difficult. BUT the most rewarding day EVER is when you can finally say you run your business full-time. There’s nothin’ better!
