Meet Shadia Amen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shadia Amen.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a Special Needs Nurse Aide (of almost 20 years) during the school year, and a Photographer every moment in between. I am a keeper of Memories. I want to remember the good times, the times that get lost in the back of our minds while we push through our daily struggles… So I always have my camera on hand. They call me the Queen of Candids. ” Shadia, I can’t believe you caught that moment!” “You always manage to capture Raw emotion in your Candids!”

I am a single mom of two wonderful kids (18 & 5). I am an All-American Muslim of Lebanese Descent. My life revolves around Positive Energy, Good Vibes, my Friends, and my Family. I am mostly inspired by Music Lyrics (Mostly Country and Alternative), I hear lyrics and think “OOH! I have the perfect picture for those lyrics!” Off to Instagram I run ( @Shads580 and @Bloomingbudsmi ) to post my favorite Images along with Lyrics that speak to my soul…

Nature inspires me. My two kids (They are my muse), and Emotions… Real, Raw emotions… And last, but surely not least, The Intriguing World of Cannabis is one of my Favorite Things to shoot. #Miracleplant

Please tell us about your art.
I am a photographer. A candid photographer. It is my sanctuary, my Therapy. I have thoughts and songs running through my head all day long… I see Image opportunities often while listening to music. If something or someone is weighing heavily on my mind… I use my photography to clear my thoughts… Combined with my favorite songs, I can come up with resolutions, new thoughts, and better perspectives. So My favorite Images in conjunction with my favorite lyrics can give you a glimpse into the wonderful world of Shadia’s Mind & Soul.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I have slowly worked on my craft over the last 5 years due to financial restrictions. It’s an expensive craft and my job with the schools doesn’t pay nearly enough to support this Art. So in order to grow my business, every penny I earned through photography (And oftentimes, a few dollars from my tax returns and other jobs, or merely dropping an extra $20 in my “Investment Envelope”) is directly devoted to the craft… So in essence, I had the mindset that I was basically shooting for free, as I did not get to freely spend my earnings… But that money added up quickly with this mindset, and I was able to buy the necessities and then the extras!

Trust the process… Be patient… And for the Love of all things Holy… DO NOT PUT YOUR PASSION ON HOLD! Shoot everyday, even if you only have one lens… Perfect your skill with that lens until you get the next one.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find me on Instagram: @shads580… Or @BloomingBudsmi (for the Cannabis Lovers)…

I’m also on Facebook:

and lastly, I’ve finally created an Etsy page (It’s still in the works, but swing by my shop and Favorite it to stay informed of new items) where I make, to order, Magnets, greeting cards, Wall Art, puzzles, Coasters and more, all with my favorite Images taken, and often along with favorite inspirational Quotes…

Though, my biggest seller is the Magic Mug!!! It’s an 11oz coffee mug that starts off as a plain black mug, and as you pour your warm beverage in, a Shadia Amen Photography Image will slowly appear along with a personalized name or Inspirational quote! And as the cup cools back down, The mug goes back to black! Very cool to watch and even more exciting to give as a gift to unsuspecting receivers.
