Meet Shannon Bierek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Bierek.

Hi Shannon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my real estate career back in 2012 while working for a family-owned and operated real estate company. I was titled “manager of the managers”, as I was the person who oversaw the property managers of several states we had properties in. I also did bookkeeping, wrote checks on paydays to all of our workers, and assisted our agents in the fix and flipped homes we accomplished in Chula Vista.

In 2020, I took on a new company that focused on cold calling and booking appointments for agents, setting up showings, and hosting open houses. I also had a wonderful opportunity to work for the lender side of my real estate company, which has given me an entirely new perspective on how real estate works behind the scenes of “opening doors”. I believe that opportunity gave me a leg up on knowledge that your average agent may not have. And I’m a number and data nerd, so I ate that up.

Fast forward to today. I am currently working for eXp Realty which is now a worldwide brokerage! I have a fantastic team, who are always there to answer any questions I may have, as well as supply incredible resources to my clients, from painters, plumbers, electricians, demolition teams, you name it!

I’ve lived in San Diego for 15 years and absolutely love it here. I’ve also lived in several different neighborhoods, so I am familiar with a vast section of America’s Finest City.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I would assume all real estate agents would say, it’s not always a smooth road. Sometimes you fall out of escrow because you find massive issues with your subject property. Sometimes you meet someone, and in two weeks, you’re opening a 21-day escrow that goes so smoothly, and you wonder how lucky you are! I would say another struggle, especially at the beginning of this year, was the lack of inventory and the demand of home buyers taking advantage of the historically low-interest rates. Boy oh boy, was that a challenge. You make an offer on a great home your client loves, and there are 15 other offers, and 3 of them are cash. You didn’t stand a chance. It was hard.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I LOVE first-time home buyers. I love to teach, and there is a lot of teaching when it comes with someone who’s never been through the home buying process before! One thing I really appreciate about my services is that if I meet someone who so far has been thinking about seriously buying a home but hasn’t taken the first step, I can point them in the right direction of getting them pre-approved. This allows me to demonstrate the importance of finding out what that “magic number” is so you can start searching for that new house! Once we go through the pre-approval process with my brilliant loan officer referrals, my buyers know, like, and trust me. Or at least they are starting to.

Now we have our pre-approval letter in hand, we have our magic number of what purchase price to start looking for, and then it’s time to shop till we drop!

I prepare my clients mentally for what is about to come. The good, bad, and the ugly. I don’t want there to be any shocking surprises that come forth that I could have foreseen. So being sure to emotionally prep their expectations is HUGE for me. I want happy buyers who turn into ecstatic homeowners.

That’s my goal.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Research about their company culture. You want to work somewhere that will make you happy and proud Try your best to work with an active team and get a mentor

Don’t quit your day job until you start making consistent money where you can finally let it go.

Don’t burn bridges

Don’t be an @$$hole. To anyone. Ever.

Always show up on time, and be presentable.

Listen to the senior agents on your team. They’ve been around the block for a while, and by simply listening to their phone calls or meeting, you will absorb a lot if vital insight and information.
