Meet Sharon and Gary Anderberg of Aero Auto Repair in Serra Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon and Gary Anderberg.

Sharon and Gary , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally established as Z-Whizz Complete Auto Repair in La Mesa, CA in 1985. Specializing in Nissan Z cars and Mazda RX-7 until 1994 when we expanded to servicing most cars, trucks and SUV’s, imports and domestics. My wife, Sharon Anderberg, joined the business in 1995 and we began to further our education through various management courses that are industry specific like AMI, Management Success and Elite Worldwide. In addition, we both have earned our Master’s Degree in Automotive Management through AMI – Automotive Management Institute. We have expanded from a small 2 man operation in 1985 and now have 2 locations with 16 employees.

Combined in 2017 they grossed approximately $2,500,000.00. In the worst economy in our lifetime we are proud to have grown, thrived and kept families in jobs while serving our community expert auto repair and maintenance services. We moved to our current location in 2002. We re-branded from Z-Whizz to Aero Auto Repair in 2010 and continue to run profitable businesses at both locations. Our second location was acquired in August 2014. Pacific Highway Auto Repair located at 4306 Pacific Highway, San Diego CA 92110. Both are NAPA AutoCare Centers with an exceptional 3 year / 36, ooo Mile Nationwide Warranty on most repairs. Our Mission: To elevate the image of auto repair by delivering extraordinary value without compromising quality or ethics. We believe that when you take care of the customer, everything else falls into place!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Growing from a small 2 bay shop to what we are today required continued education over the years. Gary and I still work in and on the businesses full time. There have been changes in the economy and even natural disasters like the fires in Scripps Ranch that presented major challenges. We moved Aero, then Z-Whizz, twice in seven years and settled permanently on Aero Drive in 2002. We’ve weathered the storms together and made sure our team was taken care of. In our industry talented, skilled and certified mechanics are very hard to acquire. This has challenged us to enhance our benefit package with medical insurance, matching 401k plan and paid time off as well as a clean, comfortable, safe and tobacco free workplace and we are CLOSED weekends! We believe that our team of professionals earn and deserve to have weekends off with their families.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We have been serving San Diego and the surrounding areas for over 33 years. We are AAA approved since 1994 and are a AAA preferred vendor. We have an A+ BBB rating and were awarded finalist for the BBB Torch Award for ethics. We have an exceptional 3 year / 36,000 Mile Nationwide Warranty on most repairs. We service most cars, trucks, SUV’s and hybrids at Aero. Our other location, Pacific Highway Auto Repair specializes in BMW, Mini, Mercedes Benz and SMART. They also service most cars, trucks and SUV’s. Both locations are certified female friendly, family friendly. Meaning they are clean, safe and tobacco free. We believe you shouldn’t need to know what your vehicles need or how to repair them. We are professionals and it is our job to determine what your vehicles need to keep them running smoothly and safely. We always inform the customer of our findings and it is always the customers decision to approve or decline based on many factors. We only recommend what is needed. We have built our reputation on this. Gary and I have four grown daughters and 6 granddaughters! We are on a mission to expel the perception that many have about the industry being dishonest and unethical.

What were you like growing up?
Gary was born with the mechanical gene! He wants to take things apart and find out HOW they work. Me, on the other hand, I want to know THAT they work! I do not have a mechanical bone in my body. Gary was raised in a large Catholic family. His mother died of breast cancer at 35 leaving seven young children. They have all grown up to be smart, high functioning adults that love each other and spend time together frequently. Gary is a graduate of St Augustine Catholic School and is a native San Diegan. I was born and raised in Anaheim. My father was also an auto repair shop owner. I was raised around all the familiar smells and sounds. I remember my dad with a cigarette in his mouth while pumping gas! We have chosen to be tobacco free and female friendly and bring a higher level of service and professionalism to an industry that desperately needs it!
