Meet Dr. Sirius and Amber Yoo of SKY Facial Plastic Surgery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sirius and Amber Yoo.

Founded in 2010, SKY Facial Plastic Surgery is a local, family-run company that draws patients nationally and internationally for customized surgical procedures of the face and neck. Best known for results that look natural, SKY Facial Plastic Surgery has received several awards including the locally coveted “Best Cosmetic Surgeon in San Diego” award from Ranch & Coast Magazine.

SKY’s surgeon, Dr. Sirius K. Yoo, is double board certified in both facial plastic surgery and head & neck surgery. Dr. Yoo is one of a select number of surgeons in the nation to complete a prestigious fellowship in facial plastic surgery at Stanford University. This unique credential combination coupled with a reputation for natural-looking results are what set Dr. Yoo apart. “After several consults with other doctors in the area, I immediately knew after meeting with Dr. Yoo that he was the doctor I would trust for my surgery,” states a patient. “He has taken years off my face without the ‘overdone look’ you see so often.”

In 2013, SKY opened its own private surgery center and received full accreditation from the Institute for Medical Quality. The surgery center enables Dr. Yoo to operate five days a week and, since the center is private, surgery patients enjoy being the sole focus of the entire facility. “I am blown away by how awesome Dr. Yoo did – he is the best,” shares one patient. “I am so excited and happy with the results. I have never seen my face look this good.”

About ninety percent of the surgeries performed at SKY focus on either the neck, eyes, or nose. SKY is also becoming internationally known as a center of excellence for the endoscopic removal of forehead lipomas and osteomas. The endoscopic approach is unique in that it doesn’t leave a scar. SKY also offers non-surgical options such as skincare, laser treatments, neurotoxin injections and volume-adding fillers.

SKY also invests heavily in its community, acting as a donor and corporate sponsor for nonprofit fundraising events, supporting volunteer work among its staff, and even closing down the business in order to participate as a team in nonprofit fundraising activities. This philanthropic focus comes directly from SKY’s Vice President, Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. who runs the business. In 2017, Amber was honored for SKY’s success as one of the top 100 fastest growing Gator-led companies in the nation. (Both the Yoos graduated from the University of Florida.) “This wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful patients, who put their faith in us every day, and our amazing team, who give their all to provide the best experience for our patients,” states Amber.

Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve faced the same challenges as any small business. Securing business loans, hiring an architectural and design team to build out our office and surgery center, obtaining all the necessary permits and licenses to operate in California, securing accreditation for our surgery center, and building a rockstar team of passionate, engaged employees.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SKY Facial Plastic Surgery story. Tell us more about the business.
We focus on the face and neck only. All of our treatments are customized to the individual person. We are best known for results that look natural.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The insurance-based environment is facing increasing regulations and decreasing fee schedules.

For healthcare providers, this makes the transition to offering cosmetic procedures more and more attractive. This is why you may see your dentist start to offer Botox injections. I think the challenge for consumers will be in navigating various provider qualifications – understanding which background and training will provide the best and safest results.

I also see an increased societal acceptance of cosmetic procedures. Patients are more willing to share their experiences with others.
