Meet Sophie Felix of HBM Talent & Management in Eastlake Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Felix.

Sophie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m Founder and CEO of HBM Talent & Management. We are a boutique modeling agency, and I work with international professional models. I train and partner our models with companies for their campaigns and events. We have models in San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. I’m also Director of Operations for RX Canna Care, a CBD infused skincare company. And I’m Southern California Chapter President for non-profit charity America’s Children of Fallen Heroes We support the children of our fallen military heroes, police officers, and firefighters. It’s amazing to have the opportunities to work on these projects. It has been and always will be important for me to support our San Diego community. I am based in Eastlake, and San Diego is home. I work mobile and travel a lot, so sometimes I enjoy days at the beach or meditating in my yoga gear while I’m on conference calls. I think it’s awesome to have the creative freedom to create my own schedule and work on my projects. Even if I’m not at my office, if I’m on an island or chilling on a mountain top on my laptop, I’m always professional and get the job done. I’m just living my dream.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Overall it has been a smooth road with HBM because I take time to provide myself with the tools I need to thrive. I spend a lot of time on my education, spiritual, and personal development. I feel a big challenge in the past was overcoming the fear of failure or the unknown, and I learned I had to cut the BS and face it in order to be successful. The big struggles were from challenges when pursuing charity work. I had to overcome so many obstacles, especially when we were fundraising. One of the children I met through a charity called Passion4K.I.D.S is Izaiah Wallis. When he was a baby, he was hit by a drunk teen driver and left paralyzed, brain damaged and on a breathing and feeding tube. I met him around the same time I founded HBM, and we donated time to support his fundraisers. I got to be there when he got his new handicap accessible home, took him to Disneyland and Sea World, and experienced special things with him. During that time, things would happen to try to stop us, things that I could not control. Sometimes it was an emotional roller coaster I wanted to scream. I remember going to sunset cliffs after I visited him at the hospital and I cried. I prayed to show me the way so I could help him and a week later I got a call from Passion4KIDS someone saw his story on the news and donated to get him his handicapped-accessible van that he needed so badly. After that, I cried again, but it was happy tears when I saw his van pull up to the hospital. It was brand new with a big red bow. When you love someone, and their life depends on your motivation, energy, and actions, you can really overcome any fear. Izaiah taught all of us who help him to never give up, and he reminds me I have what it takes. He has always been a huge inspiration, and he has the cutest smile!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about HBM Talent & Management – what should we know?
HBM Talent & Management specializes in model management and brand representation. I manage models in San Diego, Los Angeles, and New York. My models are amazing, and we have had great success because we work on our projects on our own terms. We have creative freedom and team up with the best photographers, videographers, and makeup artists. I also work one on one with my models to create them custom business plans and marketing campaigns, so they keep their business financials in order. I’m very hands-on with their business goals, and I love to help my models envision then create the life and careers they are proud of. I’m educated in international trade and business development. Some clients who are entrepreneurs seek me to represent them when meeting with their investors to close deals or consult on business develop after receiving funding. I enjoy that part of my job, as well. When I close deals for my clients, I feel powerful. I love it.

2019 has been special for HBM because of the recognition we have received. I was honored in Washington DC at the Latina Style Magazine awards for getting an “Honorable Mention” for Latina Corporate Executive of the Year for 2018. And last week we were in LA for a beautiful award ceremony. I received a “Rising Star” award nomination from the National Latina Business Women’s Association. It feels super inspiring to be recognized by organizations that have done so much for business women. I am very proud and thankful to be named as one of the top Latina business women in our country now. I am also a Telly Award winner and was recognized in 2017 as a California Hero by California State Senate for my charity work in San Diego.

This year I spend some time on my business education. I graduated from the Hera Labs Scale Intensive program and got to pitch HBM at our demo nite/graduation. And last week, I competed in the Elevate My Business Challenge hosted by Founders First Capital Partners and LIFT Development. During both accelerators, I learned a significant amount of knowledge about growing my business, targeting my market, and how to create more jobs. I am excited to announce HBM just launched our CBD infused retinol revive cream. We will begin to shoot our campaign this summer so be on the lookout for that!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the partnerships and hard work from my team. I work with the most amazing client model Philip Fusco. Phil’s been on dozens of international magazine covers, book covers, and fashion campaigns. He was just featured in a huge underwear campaign in Paris, France and shot for a film that’s coming out on Netflix. He just did a photo shoot in San Diego for a new athletic skincare campaign for a company called CBD Matrix. He’s passionate about his work, educated in health and fitness and is the best in the game. Our Director of Operations is Twompson Prater. He’s an awesome business partner and a legit genius when it comes to numbers and ideas. He developed HBM’s new CBD skincare product we are about to launch, and we all will be at the World CBD Expo in Los Angeles on July 16th-18th. I also work with model Anna Alimani, who’s been in modeling campaigns and fashion shows in LA and NYC. And we are going to start work with Will Porter, a music artist in NYC. I also have our celebrity makeup artist Charisma and executive assistant Teresa Machorro who are gems! I’m blessed to work with such an amazing group of talented people. They really keep me focused and inspire me to be the woman whom I’m destined to be.

Sophie is an absolute pleasure to work for from charity work to photo shoots she maintains an upbeat professionalism but also makes the work environment fun and relaxed. She has such a bright future ahead of her and I couldn’t be prouder of her and all her accomplishments.
