Meet Spike Bywater of Healing by Water in Mission Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spike Bywater.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Spike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I transitioned from warrior to healer by listening to my feelings. I felt a strong connection to enlist in the United States Navy during my senior year of high school.

During my first enlistment, I deployed to a combat zone with the United States Army under the mission of executing the orders as a Detainee Operations solitary confinement guard for the Al-Qaeda and Taliban insurgents in Parwan, Afghanistan.

Returning from the war, I intuitively knew that my internal compass was left in harm’s way. During the path of destruction, I was medically retired from the military and a month later I was admitted to the hospital for severe asthma and went into sudden cardiac arrest two days later. During the arrest, I witnessed the light and noticed my spirit leaving my body, ascending to a big bright white light. I heard a clear and distinct voice say, “It’s not your time child, you have work to do, go HEAL.”

I am transforming from Wounded Warrior to Energetic Healer and advocating for military men and women coping with PTSD, sexual assault, alcoholism, addiction and mental health challenges. I am an advocate to the military population and a leader among the community. I am ready to show up and touch the lives ready to create an impact on this planet.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenges I face in this water industry is the marketing and advertising! This modality is such an experiential component, it is so hard to put into words. Even when you receive a session, words are so limited to describe the session. And every session is completely different. This also falls into my lack of experience in the advertising and marketing world. I do my best to express my passion and the benefits of this work, but at times I feel that is not enough. I am a powerhouse in water and my weakness is the marketing.

Another challenge is attracting consistent clients to make this work sustainable. Most receivers share this is the most relaxed they have ever felt in their whole life but won’t make this an on-going commitment to themselves to receive regularly. And/Or my targeted population (veterans/military) do not have the funds to make this a regular self-care commitment. My heart is passionate about giving back to my military tribe.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Healing by Water – what should we know?
Healing by Water is a way of life; it is a feeling you have not experienced since you were in your mother’s womb where you experienced your first sleep, your first dream and your first movement. This warm water modality is powerful, organic healing medicine that requires no talking, no swimming experience or age requirement to float into feeling better. I emphasize comfort, security and warmth with a therapeutic touch in a safe space called, water. I hold the belief, that one day, all of mankind will experience a moment free of pain, especially my sisters and brothers of war as this modality saved my life.

I have created a program called “Freedom Floaters.” This program is geared towards Active Duty military and veterans to experience aquatic bodywork therapy (ABT) completely free. This modality saved my life, so it’s a way I can give back to my tribe from the heart. Every Friday, I will choose a new winner to receive a float and announce on social media and post on my website. Veterans and Active Duty sign up on my website with their name and email and I will place them in my treasure chest.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Healing by Water is a for purpose, female veteran owned and operated private practice in San Diego, CA called, “Healing by Water.” I primarily provide aquatic bodywork therapy which is widely known as “Watsu®.” I also provide therapeutic bodywork, ThetaHealing® sessions and therapeutic cuddling. I believe therapeutic touch is a primal element to aid in global wellness. I am here to touch the lives who are ready to live life in a bright light and feel the magic they are designed with.

I truly believe the “vet to vet” connection is organic healing medicine and I am grateful to experience the energy of the Afghanistan wartime to share the connection with other military warriors.
