Meet Steffanie Singh and Javed Khan of WedSmart in Escondido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffanie Singh and Javed Khan.

Steffanie and Javed, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I started this company because we have experience as vendors in the wedding industry. With our first company, Blush Moments we learned very quickly how expensive marketing can be. We were paying monthly for advertising and not receiving any clientele. This was definitely a problem! So we put our heads together and asked ourselves, how could we market our business in a way that would allow us to be more transparent to new brides/grooms? That’s how WedSmart came about. Vendors can list their services/products for free- no monthly cost or signups. They only pay us when a customer has booked. Right now we are in the process of gathering vendors and will be officially opening to the public in January of 2019.

WedSmart, along with Paradise Point, Sweet Love Designs and Blush Moments will be hosting a multicultural wedding showcase on February 10, 2019. Most brides travel north to book vendors who have experience with cultural weddings. We are trying to broadcast to the multicultural bridal market that these vendors also exist in their hometown of San Diego. Our guest of honor, Tamanna from @dressyourface will be doing a meet/greet and showcasing her new Indian/Middle Eastern line. For those of you who do not know her, she is an international makeup star with over 2.5 million Instagram followers! We are so honored to have her at the show!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like other e-commerce businesses, we have had to acquire a customer and a vendor. It’s not easy trying to persuade small businesses to jump on board to a platform they have never heard of. What is enticing is the fact that we are not charging a monthly fee like most bridal platforms do.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the WedSmart story. Tell us more about the business.
WedSmart is different in the sense that we give the customer transparency to what each vendor is offering. Typically if someone wanted to book a service or rent a product for an event, they would have to contact the vendor, set up a consultation and there might be a series of emails going back and forth. With WedSmart, event seekers shop, collect points and cash in points for rewards!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I consider ourselves very lucky since we came up with an amazing idea that I know will transform the wedding marketplace space!

We have had our share of bad luck when we were trying to re-establish ourselves in the ethnic wedding market. Moving from Orlando, FL to San Diego was not an easy task, but we have every step.
