Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Parker.
Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve grown up in the hospitality and food and beverage industry since I was a teenager. Realizing that my love for the industry was something that I would like to pursue as a lifelong career, I attended SDSU’s Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management which led me into a 5-year stint in restaurant management at The Brigantine and Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens. I met my food-loving hubby while at SDSU.
After we got married in 2012, we packed up and left for our honeymoon to find an apartment in the food mecca that we would call home for 3 years, San Francisco. San Francisco was a huge source of inspiration for me– the food culture, the accessibility of local ingredients, the hospitality and the culinary curiosity– I couldn’t get enough. I loved having visitors in town and planning out itineraries of the best places to eat, drink and things to do. Connecting people to what I loved most about San Francisco and hearing about their experiences solidified my decision to take a risk and bring that love back home to San Diego.
Epicurean San Diego is a culinary tour and events company. Our mission is to connect people to how their food and beverages are getting to their table through behind the scenes tours, tastings and farm to table events. To me, food is a global connector. No matter where you’re from, your hobbies/interests or your profession, people gather around a table daily to share stories, to celebrate life’s big moments, to reconnect and of course, to eat!
We are at a pivotal time here in San Diego when we are thinking in terms of our local food movement. More than ever, people are asking questions about where the food is coming from, they’re frequenting our farmer’s markets and farm stands, they want to eat local and shop local. At Epicurean San Diego, we are here to help connect you to our local farmers, food and beverage producers and artisans that make San Diego so uniquely wonderful.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like all things, if it was a smooth road or if it was easy, everyone would be doing it, right? Heck no, it hasn’t been easy and I learn something new about being a small business owner every day, but that’s been the beauty of it all.
One of the biggest challenge for us has been being a small fish in a big pay-to-play pond. We have gotten to where we are today organically, with very little paid advertising, letting our experiences and our guest service speak for themselves. And to be honest, I’m good with that!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Epicurean San Diego – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Epicurean San Diego is a culinary tour and events company. We specialize in connecting people to how their food and beverages are getting to their table. We take our guests behind the scenes at our favorite local coffee roasters, urban wineries, farms, restaurants, breweries, chocolate makers etc. They get to meet our passionate friends at each of our stops, learn about their processes, taste some of their offerings and get their hands dirty in some demonstrations! Our goal is to inspire people to shop and eat locally no matter where home is.
We also work with some talented chefs around San Diego to provide fully catered and on-site farm-to-table meals and cooking classes. We love our farm to table events and work with some of our favorite farms around San Diego to provide groups with unique and out-of-the-box outings. We truly love curating events that are unique to our clients. We can design multi-location tours, farm to table dinners on our partner farms and even fun foodie festivals for groups to enjoy.
I am personally super proud of (and thankful for) the community of partners that we have created. We work with some bad-ass locally owned businesses and without each and every one of them, Epicurean San Diego would not be possible. I love connecting our guests to our partners and letting them showcase their passions and what they do best. Without a doubt, our community is the heart and soul of Epicurean San Diego!
Our exceptional guest service is something that sets us apart from the rest. When our guests are with us, they’re in the best of hands. We’ve taken care of all of the details so the host and their guests can enjoy, indulge and relax! We are proud of our 5-star reviews across our social channels and thankful to our guests who have shared their experience with Epicurean San Diego with future guests.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are continuously growing and are looking forward to constantly expanding our network. We have some great events on the horizon and we can’t wait to share them with you!
