Meet Stephanie VandenBerg and Julia Bagunu of Events Inspired in North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie VandenBerg and Julia Bagunu.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We actually met at San Diego State University while pursuing our Interior Design degrees. Very quickly, we learned that we work extremely well together and under the pressure of deadlines. While in school we would talk about how great it would be to start a business together since we complimented each other so well and had the same work ethic and level of standards. We went on to graduate and have full – time jobs. About two years out of college we went to dinner together and talked about the idea of starting an event planning business.

We still have the napkin from that night where we started to jot down our ideas and how we could make this happen — we’re obviously planners at heart! That was almost six years ago now and looking back we are constantly amazed by how much hard work and dedication can truly make your goals happen! We were very conscious about not growing our business too quickly; we had a level of service that we did not want to sacrifice. Having learned very quickly that word of mouth and recommendations are truly invaluable to our company and its growth, we’ve really built Events Inspired on our reputation and relationships with others in the industry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If we would have known every twist and turn that we were going to encounter, it might have taken us much longer to start the company! A little bit of naivety goes a long way and really makes the journey that much more exciting! For the most part, this adventure has been pretty smooth. The biggest struggle is the time commitment: long work schedules on-site at an event, good-bye weekend plans, being “on-call” 24/7.

Please tell us about Events Inspired.
Events Inspired is an event planning company. We offer everything from our Day of Coordination Package all the way up to Full Planning. While we specialize in Weddings, we are currently working on growing into other private and corporate event opportunities. Our Interior Design background sets us apart as we have extensive knowledge in space planning and thrive on creating unique spaces that elevate the guests’ experience. We pride ourselves on the relationships created with our clients, as well as other vendors, throughout the planning process. We strive to maintain a high level of service, and are constantly humbled by guests approaching us throughout the event commenting on our hard work and thanking us.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We have learned from (and are grateful for) every experience along the way, however, one thing we would probably change if we could is to not be so hard on ourselves!
