Thanks for sharing your story with us Summer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Brew Hop started in 2007 with my husband and I while looking for a brewery tour to celebrate his birthday. Nothing like this existed nationwide and we saw an incredible opportunity to launch a luxury brewery tour, focused on beer enlightenment, going behind the scenes and really experiencing the depth of craft beer that was available in San Diego. Over the last 10 years, this city has grown exponentially in the craft beverage market, both in quantity, quality and reputation. We have over 150 breweries and over 10 Distilleries within San Diego County and we have excellent rapport with each of them, allowing our guests to have an immersive and VIP experience while visiting local breweries, spirits distilleries and craft cider houses.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Mostly, as the market has evolved and the variety has increased, some of the hardest choices are where to visit and how to fit it all in during one tour! There has been competition that didn’t exist 5 years ago, as well as an expansion of tasting rooms drawing people to stay local versus to visit the source of production, but like every diverse industry, we are adapting and evolving as the market does.
Brew Hop, LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We offer custom and private craft brewery and distillery tours in San Diego county. We recently have expanded our offerings to incorporate all craft beverages and the exciting offerings in spirits and ciders being created locally. We like to offer a “local flavor” and that offers a wide variety and also depends on the guests individual palates and interests. We are known for being the all-inclusive, luxury, behind the scenes VIP Tour in town. I am most proud of our reputation with the breweries as being experts in our field, being professional while still extremely fun and being able to be trusted to have access that other tours can’t offer! We have become the one resource for all your craft drinking needs in town, from luxury transportation, tours, unlimited tasters, VIP tour hosts, distillery and brewery options, and custom corporate events all in one company.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is highly subjective. For us, it’s been the ability to build a company with a flawless reputation in an industry that has exploded, in part because we would literally drive the business to them! In addition, it’s allowed us to be part of a community that is supportive and interested in collaborative growth. I’ve been able to be a stay at home parent while running this business and tours and that has been an experience I wouldn’t trade for any “job”. I think time management, managing growth, supporting employees to pursue dream job within the industry, are all markers for success and of course, financial security, which is always a goal for success for us.
