Today we’d like to introduce you to Susanna Samaniego-Ward and Elaina Samaniego-Myers.

San Diego and Bali’s coveted residential and commercial interior design team, DESIGN 4 CORNERS which is a sister duo lead by San Diego natives, Elaina Myers and Susanna Ward. Splitting time between North County San Diego and Bali Indonesia, the sisters boast a portfolio of award-winning designs from beach bungalows in the far east to million dollar estates on the west coast. With access to imports from the unique markets of Bali, the sister’s effortlessly illustrate worldly travel to local living — a signature look seen frequently on Fox 5 Design Segments, style blogs and numerous interior design publications. Just recently the Sisters decided to curate a collection of unique home decor pieces from around the world and from many artists and brought them home to Leucadia. Four months old their first brick and mortar is a step into a cozy and well-traveled corner of North County. It is housed with pieces either designed by the Sisters or hand-picked from their travels.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing good is ever easy! Our adventure has had its ups and downs and we continue to learn every day about good design, buying and selling and how to make a house feel like a home. The challenges are what makes us better designers.

Our first struggle was the distance between our selves. Another was the cultural differences. Such as designing a home and depending on the metric vs. inches, or the language barriers between contractors. Just to name a few. Now that we are managing a retail shop, a whole new kind of struggles have popped us for us. All good problems to have and like I said, you only get better if you can fail and come back from it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Design 4 Corners story. Tell us more about the business.
We are California girls, with roots in Ireland and Mexico. We share a love of travel and experiencing cultures through their own unique spaces. Spaces are personality. Spaces are moods. Spaces are history and family and love. And this idea is what sparked the beginning of Design 4 Corners.

We create interiors. Both commercial and residential. We design with the mood in mind.

We specialize in homes that want to be more than a home. We design for families and a quality of living. It’s a lifestyle that we base our designs on. We take a lot of pride in this.

We are known for our well-traveled look and use of materials. We have designed award-winning homes around the world. And what sets us apart is that we are sisters. It’s a family business and that is how we think space should feel like. Home.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
Our retail shop is a recent change and upgrade! We are excited to see where this will take us. We look forward to growing the shop and expanding into other cultures. The idea is to create collections from different parts of the world.

It would be great to design for some larger brands and companies. We want everyone to have access to our designs and goods.

We want to continue traveling and grow as a design company. Who knows, maybe even a coffee table book is in the future.

In the beauty of design, it is always changing, so our direction will be evolving as well. Being open to this idea of change and growth is important! This excited us!
