Meet Tara Parsons-Miranda of Tara Parsons Massage in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Parsons-Miranda.

Tara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started massage therapy 12 years ago out of a desire to help people. After going through school and getting my certification I started a small mobile massage business where I treated clients in their homes. As the years went by I became more focused on truly effecting change in people rather than merely providing a relaxing experience. I also started working with athletes- initially crossfit athletes, and later football players, golfers, and triathletes among others. Working with so many active people started me on a journey into human movement, sorts performance, and injury prevention. I became ART certified (along with many other seminars) and now my practice is focused on not only treating people’s pain and managing injuries, but also on giving people the tools to help themselves.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building a business is never a completely smooth road but I have been fortunate to find wonderful mentors and co-workers to help me along the way. Getting the word out about my practice and getting people in the door is always something I have to think about but I have a wonderful group of clients who I love to work with and I appreciate when they pass my info along to someone who I might be able to help. A couple times over the years the biggest challenge has actually been finding a clinic to work in that fits my business needs- that is always a stress. Now though I am inside Peak Form Health Center- a sports centered wellness clinic with Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Massage. We are a community of like minded health care professionals and its a joy to have a clinic space that is fun to work in and conveniently located to almost anywhere in San Diego.

Tara Parsons Massage – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tara Parsons Massage is a unique massage practice. I blend Active Release Techniques (ART), breathing exercises, postural correction and more traditional massage techniques into a treatment that is customized to each patient. I also give corrective exercises and self-care tools as part of the treatment. My goal is to help the patient reach their maximum potential- and live a healthy and active life as possible.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My patient’s success is my success. If I can make a difference in how people feel and move on a day to day basis that brings me so much satisfaction. It’s a success for me when a client doesn’t need me anymore- because then I know that I have made a real change. From a business perspective that may not sound like it makes sense but I have found that when i keep my focus on client outcomes the business just flows and through word of mouth more people come in.
