Meet Tasha Dubreuil Marinier of Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Dubreuil Marinier.

Tasha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
17 years ago, I started my career in San Diego assisting at one of the top salons in La Jolla, Atelier Aucoin. while living downtown San Diego I surrounded myself with talented, photographers, artists, models, makeup artist and plenty of hair stylist. Being in the heart of the city allowed me to volunteer at many events and fashion shows and network with some truly amazing people. I absorbed all the education that was available to me and studied my craft and the ever-changing fashion of the seasons. I really had a love for weddings, cuts and colors, editorial hair and makeup and knew I wanted to use my license and create.

Along the way, I had the pleasure of working for many amazing companies such as, BED HEAD TIGI, MIRABELLA, and UNITE. My passion for my career lead me to educating for all these companies. Watching students grow and become confident in their trade, was so rewarding to my soul and also made me become stronger as an artist. As an award-winning stylist for Bed Head and master educator for MIRABELLA, I had an opportunity to work at such events as the ESPY’s, Emmy’s, LA Fashion Week, as well as worked alongside producer Josh Zaretsky on San Diego’s REAL WORLD MTV (whose credits include MTV’s “Real World” and NBC’s “Friends”).

After my Grandfather died, my heart ached to be back home in my small town where I grew up, I knew if I was going back, I had to open a safe, inspirational workspace for myself. These years of education and professional service finally culminated into a dream realized. After much learning and personal growth, I decided to open the Beauty Bar Salon in 2010.The Beauty Bar had been a conceptual jewel for many years. Quickly the word started to spread and our salon started to specialize in weddings and events. In 2016 we were voted, “Best wedding hair and Makeup” for San Diego.

The salon has taught me so much about personal growth, giving back to the community, respect and being humble. I currently have 6 stylists and two assistants who are now a part of my Beauty Bar family. The salon was designed to be by appointment only so my stylist can also have a family life. We are all small town girls and know that our family, friend and clients will always come first. If all goes well, at the first of the year we are planning on expanding our salon and absorbing the unit next to us. Fingers crossed!!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Roads are never meant to be smooth! That would be boring!!!! I opened the salon in one of the worst economic times of my lifetime and there were definitely dark days. Keeping the doors open in the beginning required me to work 7 days a week. I had to be available for new clients, which is a 24/7 job. I also had to find time to clean the salon, do book keeping, purchasing and keep current in the industry. Now I realize the importance of time, so I took a step back. I took someone’s advice, “do what you do best, and outsource the rest”. I no longer get burnt out on day to day tasks at the salon and have hired help.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beauty Bar INC. story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in cuts, colors, extensions and weddings. We are most proud of being a space that allows our clients to speak freely, express themselves and also provide amazing service. We love to pour our client a glass of wine and lend ears to their problems or struggles. The more we learn about others, the more we love we have for human kind.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have truly been lucky. My luck, is being raised in a family of such strong entrepreneurs. I learned from my Grandparents and parents at a young age, that things were not handed to you, you had to work for them. I have always been humble and wanted to work hard and still to this day I feel lucky to have had such amazing leaders in my life.
