Meet Taylor Rhodes of Hot Tub Cruisin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Rhodes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My brothers and I were raised in Spokane, WA, where we grew up sailing, water skiing and wakeboarding on the colder lakes of the Pacific Northwest. During that time we always joked around about putting a hot tub in our boat.

After college and moving to San Diego, my now wife, brothers and I set out to do just that. We found a terrific location, at Mission Bay Sportcenter boat rentals, to operate our business out of. After our Hot Tub Cruisin boat design was approved by the US Coast Guard, we began construction of our custom Hot Tub Cruisin boat from scratch. We started the build at our Uncle’s property, then finished up at the Mission Bay Sportcenter’s on sight boatyard.

After about a year of business startup processes, city/county permitting, and boat construction, we began operations on Memorial Day Weekend 2014. About to head into our fifth year of successful Hot Tub Cruisin boat rentals now, we have two locations with two boats and are looking at expanding our operations to new markets, as well as begin building and selling our custom Hot Tub Cruisin boats for other’s personal, commercial, and franchise partnership uses.

Has it been a smooth road?
As this was our first business venture, the road to business startup was definitely a learning process, but something we very much relished in and benefited from. We found ourselves in a very fortunate position of having our product and business model prove to be successful very early on. This allowed all of us to look to other opportunities while growing Hot Tub Cruisin at a strategic pace.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hot Tub Cruisin story. Tell us more about the business.
Hot Tub Cruisin offers a luxuriously unique way to have fun on the beautiful waters of Mission Bay in this one of a kind hot tub boat rental. Whether your group is large or small, everyone will enjoy the unforgettable experience of hot tubbing on a boat.

The boats seat up to 10 guests. The hot tub water is adjustable depending on weather/air temperature and the renter’s personal preference.

There is a nice sound system on board that connects to any music playing device, as well as an optional propane grill, water slide, a 50 quart under seat cooler, a 6 quart “in hot tub” cooler, dry storage for personal belongings, and additional deck seating.

There are a lot of traditional equipment/boat rental options in the market today. What we set out to do and what sets us apart from others, is we have a one of a kind and all-inclusive vessel that can accommodate anyone’s needs and desires while out on the water.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technological innovation is improving every day. The only limit of our industry, like many others, seems to be in just our imagination. People could not imagine a person flying just a few years ago, yet Mission Bay Sportcenter has the JetBoard and JetPack which allow anyone to soar over the waters of Mission Bay.

When we set out to create Hot Tub Cruisin, we received a lot of doubt that building a reasonably sized boat that could house a hot tub was not possible. Yet through ingenuity, perseverance, and imagination here we are today. We are looking forward to seeing what fun and exciting ways our industry finds to get out on the water next.
