Meet Teresa Mazzarella of TMazz Health and Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Mazzarella.

Teresa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first really got into weightlifting and fitness in 2011. I had hired a personal trainer with the intention of competing in a bodybuilding show. I was training with a personal trainer for about 6 months, and by the fitness and nutrition had become a huge part of my life. I was hooked!

At the time, I was working a 9-5 job that had nothing to do with my interests. I decided I might as well take a leap of faith and quit my job to become a personal trainer. I became certified through NASM in 2014 and started my own business in 2015 (I worked at a corporate gym for a few months, before starting my own business). I have a private studio in National City where I train clients one-on-one, partner, and small group. I also offer online fitness programming for those who don’t live in San Diego, or that don’t have the budget for in-person training. I do a bit of coaching with all of my personal training clients, but I also offer coaching-only services.

As of this year, I officially started my Healthy Lifestyle Coaching program. Through working with hundreds of clients, I realized that the biggest part of a lifestyle change is really our behaviors and habits. If we don’t change those, there will be no lasting results. My coaching program is designed to increase clarity, accountability, personal development, and reflective thinking. This is for anyone looking to figure out their true desires and values, and begin acting on them. I am actually working on a new project related to this, which is designed to be accessible to anyone! This new project will be released Spring of 2019.

I also published my first book, The Wellness Compass, this year! It is an all-encompassing health book that covers nutrition, supplements, eating styles, workout and recovery methods, and the basics of the human body. I wrote this book with all of my clients in mind because I would get so many of the same questions over and over – it was clear that many people were confused and overwhelmed by the amount of information out there. My ultimate goal is to help guide and educate others about fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle while maintaining a healthy mindset around it. I believe that too many of us get caught up in extreme diets/behaviors, and our well-being suffers because of it. I am all about a balanced lifestyle that serves us!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest challenge for my business is just getting my message out there. While social media is great and allows us to reach so many new people, it can also be very competitive and consuming.

Sometimes it feels like I am a little fish in a giant pond, but I will keep doing what I am doing because I think the world needs it! There are too many people out there promoting the wrong things (in my opinion), just to benefit themselves. I want to be a person that can be trusted and relied on to provide truthful, educational, and non-biased information in the health and fitness industry.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about TMazz Health and Fitness – what should we know?
TMazz Health and Fitness is all about living a fit, healthy life while balancing the mental and emotional side of things as well. You may be in shape and eat well, but if you are obsessed with how your body looks or sleeping 4 hours every night, can you really say you are healthy?

My mission is to teach others that there is a way to have it all. A fit body, great nutrition habits, a balanced lifestyle, and a mindset that is strong, capable, and positive. I try to do this by leading by example. I want to be totally transparent and honest with my clients and those who receive the info I put out.

I want to set a new standard in the fitness industry that is not just focused on body fat percentage and “looking good naked.” If you put all of your value in external results, your internal systems (mindset, mood, mental health) will suffer.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honesty and vulnerability. While it is really cool to see all of the amazing and impressive and shiny areas of someone’s life, I believe it is much more relatable and encouraging to see that nobody is perfect, and we all have insecurities and struggles. Our society has become very detached from one another, and I hope that myself and my message can bring some connection back to us.
