Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Mazzarella.
Teresa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Once I graduated high school, I moved to Tucson Arizona to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Ecology and Evolutionary biology. It was during this time that I started to frequent the gym much more often, and I got into the habit of exercising daily. I saw the benefits of maintaining a consistent program and since then I have been committed!
After graduating college with a Bachelor’s of Science, I decided to move to San Diego; the amazing weather and variety of the city really drew me in. After settling in to a new city and getting a full time job, I decided I was ready for my next challenge. I decided to hire a personal trainer to help me reach my goal of improving my body composition through bodybuilding. Over the course of about 7 months, I dropped body fat and put on a lot of muscle. My body looked better than it ever had before! I became addicted to weightlifting and the whole fitness lifestyle.
After that, I began thinking about how much I enjoyed fitness as a hobby and that maybe it could be my next career move. After doing some research, I decided to get certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Soon after becoming certified, I took the plunge, quit my nine to five job and began taking on clients. I started out at a large corporate gym where I was able to gain experience and learn a lot from others. Since then, I have continued to gain valuable experience, made some great friends and most importantly I have helped many people improve their lives through nutrition and exercise.
As long as you have a desire to learn and the commitment to make changes, I will be here to guide and support you through this journey. I love that my day to day life involves making people feel better physically as well as mentally. What’s stopping you from being next?!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have been extremely lucky in that I have had a lot of success with my business since I started. Due to word of mouth from my clients and review sites such as Yelp, I have been able to grow and maintain my business for over the past 3 years. Though I understand that having your own business is a never-ending challenge, and you always need to be improving/growing/adding value.
TMazz Personal Training – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The main service of TMazz Personal Training is one on one personal training but I offer other services as well. These include lifestyle coaching, nutritional guidance and online fitness programming/coaching. I would say I specialize in helping those who have a very basic/limited knowledge of health and fitness expands their views on those subjects. I love teaching my clients a new way to do something or the correct way to perform an exercise. I really enjoy seeing my clients have success and become stronger and more accomplished. I have been on both sides of the equation, so I can relate to what they are going through! I pride myself on being extremely authentic and real; I do not pretend to be something I am not. Yes I am a personal trainer and I love fitness and eat healthy, but I also struggle with motivation and diet sometimes! The fitness industry is growing so fast, and there are so many new faces and I see a lot of misrepresentation of “healthy” and “fitness.” I want to be a voice and representation of truth and honesty that helps the outside world see what is it actually like!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
That is a tough question! There are so many areas that I would like to be “successful” in. Of course financial success is a goal (as well as a necessity when you are self-employed!), but I also want personal success. To me, that includes: reaching goals that I lay out for myself, seeing my business continue to grow and thrive; helping more and more clients, connecting with others and having them tell me I had an impact in their life. Ultimately, I think success for me is designing and attaining the ideal life for myself. That includes having a career I love having financial independence and freedom, having close relationships with friends and family, creating a home that I love and having the ability to continually travel frequently!
