Meet Terry Beasley of Beasley Cleaners in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Beasley.

Terry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The Beasley family has been in the dry-cleaning business for four generations. I grew up with my grandfather and father in the business. I bought my first store from my father and have been doing this for over 40 years. At some point all of my kids have worked for me, and my two oldest sons went on to open their own stores. Travis, my oldest, is now back with me running the front end of my store and also doing his own dry-cleaning delivery service. His son, Tanner, is now working his way through college with us. Beasley Cleaners has been in Carmel Valley since the opening of Piazza Carmel almost 27 years ago.

Has it been a smooth road?
Two of the biggest struggles in recent years have been a changing economy and people’s changing habits with dressing up. Dry cleaning is somewhat of a luxury, and when the last recession hit people cut back on dry cleaning. People are also a lot more casual now. Casual Friday at work can now be Monday through Friday for many people. Dressing up to go out or for holidays isn’t like it was in the past. People used to dress up the whole family for holidays and events; and now we just live in a more casual time that requires less dry cleaning.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beasley Cleaners story. Tell us more about the business.
We are an owner operated business, and we do all of our dry cleaning on our own premises. We love what we do and love that we’ve established relationships with customers that have been with us since the beginning. Other than the employees that have passed through while going to college, we have very little employee turnover. This allows us to really get to know our customers and their preferences. Our goal is to always provide quality work that we would want to receive ourselves.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry definitely seems to be going into more of a pickup and delivery direction. People are busy and like the extra help of having services come to them instead of making extra stops in their day. We have already seen the industry going in a greener direction and I only see it becoming more environmentally friendly.
