Meet Tim Suski of Rush Cycle in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Suski.

Tim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After attending college in San Diego I was able to secure a great job in the corporate world. It allowed me to travel often, live a fast-paced life and earn a great paycheck. It offered security and there was a lot of room to grow within the company – it was providing everything I thought I wanted our of a career. As I was approaching my second full year with the company, I realized I still had a little voice in my head every single day that was telling me I needed to strike out on my own and build a business I was passionate about. Side note – if you have this itch or voice as well, it will never go away until you try to satisfy it lol.

At the time (2010) I was living in LA and received a call from my best friend Corey (know each other since we were 14), he had just taken an indoor cycling class and was immediately addicted. He then proceeded to hound me for about two weeks until I would go take a class, I finally walked into a studio in Brentwood and completely understood why he was so attracted to the workout/experience. We ended up meeting for coffee that week and in a caffeine-induced frenzy we scribbled ideas in our notebooks and walked away with a silent understanding that our lives were forever going to change.

We spent the next six months perfecting our business plan, then decided to quit our jobs and move to San Diego so pursue the hopes of opening up our first Rush Cycle location. What started as a single 25 bike indoor cycling studio in La Jolla CA (2011), has exploded in popularity and has now grown into one of the fastest growing indoor cycling franchise brands with 15 new studios in development for 2017 (Major markets include: San Diego, Orange County, San Francisco, Denver, and Houston.)

**While we were opening up our very first location, we lived above the cycling studio in an apartment so we could live, breathe, eat and sleep the business we were building. All we had were our mattresses, which were on the floor, and a storage room filled with all of our belongings which consisted of only surfboards at the time. We often talk about how we miss those days, but we definitely made sure to enjoy it while it was happening.**

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, I don’t think I know one entrepreneur that would call their story a smooth road lol. Apart from taking the initial risk of pursuing our dreams with no previous experience and moving our lives to San Diego at the age of 25, we faced a lot of adversity.

We made a lot of mistakes, whether they were financial, operationally, growth etc. but we were always able to learn from them and find a solution. I think that is really important to know, those tough days will always come when you start a business but it is how you react to those situations that will make or break your business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rush Cycle – what should we know?
Rush Cycle is a rapidly growing franchise fitness brand that strives to provide the local community with most efficient cardio workout while maintaining a premium level of quality, intimacy and convenience.
