Meet Tina Fitzgerald of CommuniTea Yoga & Meditation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Fitzgerald.

Tina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I worked in the big business career world for over 25 years. After many years of climbing the corporate ladder, working long hours and traveling the world, I became stressed out, tired and anxious. I was in the rat race. I was a hamster on a wheel. Working day and night for that almighty paycheck that kept growing and growing allowing me to buy all of the things I thought would make me happy. I ended up using sleeping pills, and alcohol to get to sleep and caffeine to wake up and function. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong tools to help me cope. The drugs, alcohol, caffeine and sugar just helped me kick the can down the road a few years. The yoga and meditation I was practicing were not at the level or speed that my body needed. Once I hit pre-menopause, those “tools” no longer helped me, and some of them actually sped up my demise. I was having daily headaches and my nervous system was shot!

My immune system weakened and I was experiencing walking pneumonia every year. All of a sudden I had allergies and sensitivities to things that never bothered me before. But I kept on pushing. The travel and lifestyle of being a “big business” woman was taking its toll on my body. This unbalanced lifestyle led to a pretty severe illness. My body began to shut down. I went from global travel to almost complete adrenal shut down. I couldn’t get out of bed, I had daily migraines that would not go away no matter what I tried, I couldn’t drive in a car because the motion was too much for me. I became weaker and weaker. Doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. My symptoms got lumped into the auto-immune bucket. I couldn’t function anymore and had to quit my very lucrative job. I needed to do something quick.

I ended up moving to Southern California to heal my body mind and soul. I love the energy here in north county San Diego. This is where my healing process began. This is where I discovered Kundalini Yoga. I learned quickly from studying and practicing this type of yoga how healing it is for the body. I have been able to restore my nervous and endocrine system. My glandular system came back into balance, I no longer need thyroid medication or any medication for that matter. I have strengthened my body and come back to my center. The improvement is simply amazing. When the glandular systems start to secrete, we are able to decalcify the pineal gland and it is like turning back the biological clock. I actually look younger than I did several years ago and many kundalini yogis find this to be true for them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a very difficult and painful journey. It always is when it comes to addiction and our identity. As adults, we tend to identify with our careers versus our true authentic selves. When someone asks, “Who are you?” What is your answer? Often it is I am a mother, or I am a wife, or I am a banker, etc. but those are just labels.

As we uncover who we really are at our core, we begin to find our true path in life, our Dharma. We see if we are in alignment with our true standards of integrity. It was not my dharma to be a commodities buyer. It was what I fell into and it was my career for a while. I had to get really sick before I could or would listen to my guidance. I had to detoxify and clean my body and mind before I could actually hear my calling.

There was no question that I had to share this technology to help others and I felt the best way to do this was to open a center. A center for the community called CommuniTea Yoga & Meditation.

Please tell us about CommuniTea Yoga & Meditation.
We are a very unique yoga studio. At CommuniTea Yoga & Meditation we offer life-changing yoga classes and programming unlike any other studio in North County. Our focus is Kundalini yoga (Specific Aquarian Age Kriya Yoga that was only shared with royalty and elite yogis in India). We offer Qigong and QiCore for a Healthy Back and the Yoga of 12-Step Recovery.

We have specific classes that focus on thyroid health, balancing the endocrine system, brain health for memory and clarity. We are offering meditation classes focused on Prosperity, a restore your Pranayama (Breathwork), Sobriety and Prosperity Meditations. We offer energy and sound healings as well as a monthly Sat Nam Rasayan workshop (The ancient healing technology of Kundalini Yoga). A morning stretch great for surfers or anyone wanting a great stretch to start their day…

These modalities are very specific and work beautifully to restore health, balance, vitality, youthfulness and happiness. All our yoga classes incorporate meditation, specific sound currents like gong baths or crystal singing bowls, breath work (pranayama) and deep relaxation. All our clients receive healing Yogi Tea after each class. Thus the name, CommuniTea.

We have New Student Specials, Senior and Veteran discounts and Vacation Packages. No experience or flexibility is necessary for our yoga. It is for everyone and all age levels are welcome.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I learned that stress is real and it has real effects on our bodies. I learned the things we do to relax and unwind are often unhealthy for us and we are trained to reach for things outside ourselves, like alcohol, pharmaceutical drugs, etc. to make us feel better when in reality we just need to go inside and tune into ourselves and our own divinity. We have all the tools, the chi is within us. The life-force of the breath is so healing for our bodies. If I didn’t get really sick working in the corporate business world I would have never found the technology of Kundalini Yoga.

This type of yogic science is relatively unknown and it is such a tremendous healing modality for the body, mind and soul. I was so sick, I wanted to die. The daily migraines, lack of sleep and other issues (lumped into autoimmune disorder) were enough to make anyone just give up. I never thought I would actually look back and be thankful for going through all of that, but I am. And I am most grateful that my life now is about sharing the benefits of this type of yoga and meditation so others don’t have to go through what I did.

I am contacted by people all the time that are going through some of the addiction, adrenal and sleep challenges I had and it is so wonderful to be able to help them and to reassure them that there is a proven, natural way to help them recover to a healthy, happy and balanced life.
