Meet Trailblazer Ashley Spedale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Spedale.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For over 13 years, I’ve been a professional make up artist. I started doing make up professionally while in college still. I graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Media Arts (Radio/TV/Film). During that time, I also had a radio show, interviewed bands and worked at FUSE TV. After graduating, I moved from NY to LA. I worked as a PA for a little and then moved back to NY and continued to work in NYC in production. I was not filling fulfilled. So, I decided to pursue makeup artistry. I went to the Makeup Designory in Manhattan and then went back out to LA to study Special FX & Prosthetics at the Joe Blasco School of Makeup (this location has since closed but their other one in Orlando remains open). I then came back to NY and pursued my career. I have worked with numerous brands, done loads of bridal make up, worked on music videos, film sets, and NYFW. I have also been published internationally in multiple magazine publications. All during this time, I also had my own lash extension business servicing clients for the past 10 years. With a passion for fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and mindset; I started a blog 4 years ago called: Glittle Wonderland. “Glittle’ is a made-up word I took from the former cupcake business I also ran during my 20s called, Glittle Cupcakes.

Seven months ago, I packed up my life and moved to San Diego! Best decision I have ever made! As an influencer/blogger, I promote other brands I am passionate about and support! Going back to my roots, with my love of music, I started my DJ career here in SD & I’m having a blast with it! I continue to offer my make up artistry skills for any type of event, as well as teaching how to’s as well! And I run Glittle Glam Glitter Bars! You can find me every weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel Sunburn Pool Party from 1-4pm covering people in Glitter! I also offer Mindset Coaching to bloggers, influencers, and entrepreneurs! One on ones are available or I have a secret Facebook group that people can subscribe to!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If I told you this has been an easy ride I would be lying to ya! There will always be ups and downs in your life! And its how we choose to show up and deal with the situations that ultimately shapes the human you are today!
I don’t come from money, so I have always hustled my way to making it. I deal with horrible anxiety and figuring out ways to deal with this has been vital. Your mind is the most powerful thing you’ve got, so you need to keep it healthy. And this goes without saying, how you fuel your body, how you treat your body, and your mind all reflect your progress and success!

I would say if you want something goes after it. If you believe in yourself and believe in what you’re doing – it will shine through! People will see it! You’re going to naturally attract your tribe by just being you. And if you get knocked down – get up again – because they’re never gonna knock you down! (in the wise words of Chumbawumba – I might be dating myself there) Be persistent and consistent. All your magic is already inside of you! The world needs you and your message and your gifts. Don’t give up. You REALLY are capable of ANYTHING you put your mind to. I mean that. I promise!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
I think I put this in my first paragraph when asked about my background!

I also wrote an ebook with my friend, Sarah Foster! We wrote The Influencers Guide to Working with Brands!

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The best advice I can give is to be confident. Believe in yourself. LOVE YOURSELF. Know your worth. Know that the world needs you and your gifts and your message. You are the change in whatever your passion is. Do NOT worry about what anyone else is doing. You do you. Because there is only one you! You’re unique. You’re beautiful and fabulous. Stand your ground. People respect you when you say no. If you do not feel right about it, don’t do it, because you don’t have to. You have the power to achieve anything your heart desires. Get clear on exactly what you want. Don’t get caught up on the ‘how’ just start and take action, people don’t care if things aren’t perfect. You will learn and grow from everything you experience. If it scares you – do it. (I mean, don’t jump off a bridge… you know what I’m saying) Take risks. Be open-minded. Some of the best things that I have experienced and done have scared the shit out of me. But, guess what?! They were all worth it!
