Meet Trailblazer Dr. Chantal Davis DACM, L.Ac.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Chantal Davis DACM, L.Ac.

Dr. Davis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I received my bachelors in sociology in 2000 and had no idea where to go from there. I knew having a career that I loved and that gave me purpose was of the utmost importance to me. I spent a couple of years traveling South America and Europe, waiting tables and then teaching English as a second language.

I had received acupuncture from a student when I was in my undergrad and it peaked my curiosity but it wasn’t something I thought I had the capacity to learn.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. After feeling lost for several years after graduating, I decided to go for it and it all came to me so easily. Everything I was learning about health, energy systems and herbology made more sense to me than anything else I had learned up to that point.

Supporting women and families with Chinese Medicine has become my passion and purpose in life and I have dedicated many hours to learning how the female body works both in terms of Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine. I am proud to be an empowering resource for women to find balance in a natural and holistic way.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your own practice or business of any sort is never a smooth road. If it were smooth, I wouldn’t have learned all that I now know and continue to learn. As a woman entrepreneur, having children can slow down the growth of your practice. Learning to find the balance between motherhood and being self-employed comes with many challenges. The best lesson I received was to slow down and consider your priorities. Your children are only young once. Give what you can to your practice but be sure to allow time and space for self-care and of course your children. They grow so quickly and those first few years are incredibly precious. I am so grateful for the time that being self-employed allowed me to have with my children before they became school age. Always be sure to take time for yourself and the things that fill you up.

We’d love to hear more about Free Flow Health Acupuncture.
I am a Doctor of Chinese Medicine. I work with people from all walks of life but my main focus is fertility pregnancy and pain management. I help couples to achieve their dream of becoming parents whether that be through regulating women’s menstrual cycles, boosting the quality and quantity of men’s sperm or supporting them through IVF or IUI cycles.

Another area of my practice that is incredibly fulfilling is working with women throughout their pregnancies to ensure a healthy and smooth pregnancy. I also see women at the end of their pregnancy to help prepare their bodies for labor. Studies show that acupuncture weekly from 36 weeks on can help shorten the length of active labor and reduce the need for interventions.

My background in massage has also made pain management another area of expertise for me. Acupuncture is phenomenal at treating pain by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation. I enjoy working with athletes to help get them back into action. Some other pain issues I treat are sciatica, migraines, shoulder issues, low back pain and knee issues.

My history as a massage therapist, experience as a mother and focus on nutrition sets me apart from others. I don’t believe acupuncture is the answer to all of your issues. I believe individuals need to be given guidance and knowledge about how to have a healthy and balanced lifestyle and that is what I provide every patient that comes into my office. The power to heal is within all of us.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I am currently relistening to The Conscious Parent by Shefali Tsabaray. This book is phenomenal! I am actually considering starting a support group at my office based on this book. I am a big follower of Abraham Hicks and the Law of Attraction and very much believe the thoughts we choose determine the way we feel. I am always reaching for a better feeling thought.

I have so many amazing and inspiring women in my life and I am so grateful for them. My very good friend Kristen Gonzalez who is also an acupuncturist is a huge resource for me in women’s health.

It’s so important that woman support each other and help one another thrive. There isn’t a limited supply of success. In appreciating the success in others, more success will come to you.

It is so good to reach out to individuals with your ability to let them see there are different ways to see the uniqueness in what you accomplish. You are so genuine in what you to and passionate. I am proud to be your mother. I was scared at first of needles but I learn they can help you a lot as everything I was experiencing was real and good for my body
