Meet Trailblazer Kimberly Ibbotson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Ibbotson.

Kimberly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m known as kimberlytayhair on Instagram. I am a 24 year old hair artist originally from a small town just north of Sacramento, CA. I attended cosmetology school at the age of 17 and knew this is where my passion lied from the beginning. I have proudly built my brand in my hometown of Yuba City, CA but decided 2018 was a year for positive change and major growth and relocated to San Diego, CA. I specialize in vivid and creative colors and also greatly enjoy the photography/videography aspect of my job. I am so grateful that I get to live my dream on the daily.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a rough and bumpy road, to say the least. There have been many days of doubt, but no days are bad enough to give up everything you’ve worked hard for. If you have a vision and believe in yourself, there is nothing stopping you. Preserve because It is and will always be worth it!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kimberly Tay Hair – what should we know?
I specialize in vivid and creative colors. I also create video content as often as possible and it is initially what got my name out there. I am most proud of the amount of growth I’ve had in the few short years I have been in this industry.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I was the youngest child and only girl in my family. I remember my mom constantly dressing me up and finding a cute and unique way style my hair daily. I think that played a huge part of my love for hair. I also had extremely accepted and loving parents who always admired my uniqueness and creativity. They allowed me to express myself and taught me that I could do whatever it was in life I wanted if I worked hard enough for it. That sticks with me.
