Today we’d like to introduce you to Sulay Ledezma.
Sulay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Many girls fall in love with fashion in one way or another. My love affair for the fashion industry started when I attended a fashion career workshop during my senior year of high school. That was the day I realized that the fashion industry was a whole new world that I wanted to discover. The same day, I went home and told my parents the great news, I had found my passion. We went to visit a university that offered fashion merchandising as a major. I was extremely happy. Unfortunately, my parents did not believe that was the best career choice for me. Making my parents proud has always been something very important to me, therefore I went on a long career hunt and found something that made all of us happy. I became a teacher and got to travel around the world, working in places such as South Africa, Mexico, and the United States. After a few years of teaching French and Spanish to young children, I realized I had made a great choice but It did not fulfill me. In 2014, I created my first blog but it didn’t take off due to the lack of time. In 2016, one of my dearest friends, Lynneth Vizcarra created her own blog, I felt so proud and inspired and with her support, I decided to create my own blog. The marvelous response inspired me to pursue the career of my dreams. I’m about to start a new adventure, next fall, I will be attending college and majoring in fashion merchandising.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like everyone, my journey hasn’t been easy. The main struggle has been not having the support of my loved ones. My advice for other women would be to always follow their truest dreams, even if it means doing it by yourself and without the support of your closest people. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help. Dare to move outside of your comfort zone and reach new limits.
We’d love to hear more about BLOG.
Part of my job is to recommend products to my followers and readers. I only promote stuff that I truly like, and not all of my posts are payed. I like to share products that are part of my daily life. Something that makes me very proud as a content creator is that I have been able to work with brands that I’ve loved since I was younger. I believe that every blog is different and I like to describe my blog as a personal journal where I can be my most honest self.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe we all need inspiration. My advice will be to get inspired by someone with similar interests as yours. Surround your self with big dreamers. Attend events related to the things you love. Dreaming big, setting goals and setting time has also worked for me.
