Meet Tricia Ambroziak of Aromatherapy by Tricia Ambroziak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Ambroziak.

Tricia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Science and nature have always fascinated me and I enjoy helping others. I studied biology in college and discovered that I love scientific research, chemistry, and lab work. I began working in a cancer research lab after I graduated from college and also got married. I continued in research and taught science until I had kids and decided to stay at home. I had long been interested in eating healthy and exercise and after having kids I became increasingly interested in natural health and wellness. I read Tales of a Shaman’s Apprentice, which recounts the travel and studies of ethnobotanist Mark J. Plotkin as he spent years with Amazonian shamans who taught him the plant lore of their tribes and it deeply impacted me. I felt called to learn more about natural and holistic approaches to health in addition to what science had to offer.

I haphazardly tried herbs and supplements but still struggled personally with reoccurring sinus infections, my kids getting sick, and my daughter’s allergies. Learning about essential oils was a real blessing. I began my essential oil journey with a popular MLM and the products worked amazingly well, but I wanted to better understand the chemistry and science of essential oils — especially so I could validate how they worked to my husband who has a Ph.D. in molecular biology. I decided to become a certified aromatherapist and furthered my studies in clinical and medicinal aromatherapy, herbal medicine, and holistic health care. In my aromatherapy studies, I learned to make many therapeutic products and also began to study cosmetic chemistry, learning how to make creams, lotions, hair care and other products in which to incorporate the benefits of essential oils and herbal extracts. I felt empowered and had tools to fight germs, help my daughter with her allergy symptoms, and found that I was no longer having to head to the doctor for multiple rounds of antibiotics to fight sinus infections.

In addition, I created awesome, natural products for skin and hair and found that my skin and scalp were healthier using unrefined oils and butters along with essential oils and herbs. As a certified aromatherapist, my original business plan was to create custom aromatherapy products for individuals but things have taken off in a way more interesting direction and I am also working with businesses. I was contacted by AromOx and along with other aromatherapists helped them to create essential oil blends for their unique oxygen aromatherapy system and am part or their aromatherapy support team.

I’ve met local businesswomen who appreciate essential oils and natural products and now create handcrafted products for a local spa and hair salon. And I’ve been incorporating CBD and herb infused oils into salves and creams and have helped many with these plant-based products. So I’ve been able to use aromatherapy and plant-based approaches for both individuals and businesses. I am inspired by Bruce Lee who, as a martial artist, took the best from what each martial art had to offer and created his own unique style. As a scientist, lover of nature, and biologist I want to learn from many areas from aromatherapy, herbal medicine, holistic based approaches to health, cosmetic chemistry, massage, and what not to best serve my clients both individuals and business owners. I want to take a “Bruce Lee” approach to my aromatherapy practice by incorporating, herbs, scientific research, holistic health care, and so on – learning about and taking the best from what each has to offer and providing my best for both individual and business clients.

This means I have to keep studying and learning, which I love to do. And as I learn about the wisdom and effectiveness of plant-based methods I also feel called not only to learn and share to help others but also to preserve and pass on this knowledge and be a good steward of plant resources. So I’ve gone from working in the lab and classroom and being a mom wanting to help her family stay healthy to being able to use my skills as a scientist and teacher to create aromatherapy and natural products for others as well as educate through classes and writing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Initially, my family was rather skeptical of aromatherapy and my son actually doesn’t care for many of the essential oil aromas. But I was making it through cold and flu season without getting sick. Sore muscles and belly aches improved. My daughter could breathe better at night.

And when I began incorporating CBD products into my practice and could apply a handcrafted salve or lotion to my husband’s back and it helped they began to realize that I was on to something awesome. Now my daughter and husband will request products for themselves or their friends. Essential oils are also very popular right now and people may not understand the value of a certified aromatherapist versus an oil membership. I had to find my niche in all of this.

I found that many people have essential oils and are excited about them but aren’t really sure how to use them. I don’t just represent a single company but can help others no matter what essential oils they choose and help them find quality oils that best fit their budget. I am able to educate people how to use essential oils in a safe and effective way and unique ways.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Aromatherapy by Tricia Ambroziak – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am an aromatherapist and product formulator. I create custom aromatherapy products for both individuals and businesses and teach about aromatherapy through classes and writing. I also teach people to formulate and create product recipes. When an individual client requests an consult we will meet or talk by phone and complete a lifestyle and wellness history. I’ll ask about diet, sleep, exercise, medications and supplements, allergies, and aroma preferences among other things. This helps guide us towards creating a product or products to address their wellness needs.

For example, if someone is looking for support with relaxation and sleep perhaps I’ll create a bath oil and diffuser blend with relaxing oils that support the mind, body, and spirit with respect to any sensitivities or contraindications they may have. If someone is having issues with migraines or stress an inhaler and or roll on the application may be appropriate. For businesses we meet or talk via phone or email. If a client would like wholesale products for their store we’ll discuss what it is they want, the feel, the ingredients, etc. and I’ll come up with prototypes. Once we find the right base we smell and combine essential oils to fragrance the product and support the body.

Sometimes a client may want advice on how to create a product, for example, a massage therapist who is looking for suggestions on how to use aromatherapy to create custom massage oils or creams. And sometimes people will just visit my online store and either purchase products or bases or request a different fragrance or something be removed due to allergy. From time to time I’ll hold classes and teach people about essential oils and how to blend them or how to handcraft products. It’s so fun. People love smelling essential oils and creating their own products.

What sets me apart is my certification, scientific background, creativity, as well as my commitment to giving my best. I value the relationships I have with all my clients and am grateful to share my knowledge and create products especially for them. Having worked in a lab for many years I am very comfortable coming up with unique products and solutions. And I strive to keep learning and growing. As I mentioned earlier, I am inspired by Bruce Lee’s approach of taking the best of each martial art to create his own style.

As an aromatherapist, I want to incorporate other holistic practices to further the benefits of essential oils. When you handcraft a product using unrefined organic and wildcrafted ingredients you get something beautiful that people really enjoy. Products people most enjoy are body butters, foaming sugar scrubs, goat milk facial cream, CBD salve, and deep hair conditioner. Clients also love smelling essential oils and creating unique blends whether it’s for a therapeutic purpose or a handcrafted product line — it so fun. It’s an awesome feeling when people love something you’ve handcrafted. I’m flattered to have worked with a local hair salon owner to help create a handcrafted product line inspired by her beautiful mom.

I’m grateful to handcraft CBD salves and other CBD products that have given relief to many. I’m fulfilled to be helping people with my work and I’m proud to be part of a community of people who share an appreciation of aromatherapy and herbal medicine and work to share and preserve this knowledge.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’ve got some exciting collaborations underway. Scaling up production of the handcrafted hair care product line and creating new products for a local hair salon owner. There’s talk of a handcrafted skin care line for a local esthetician.

And I’m excited to see how AromOx oxygen aromatherapy continues to grow. Of course, I’m still consulting with individuals and creating custom aromatherapy products both locally and for clients across the country via phone and email. The CBD products are very popular and effective and I imagine as people try them that line will grow even more. At some point I imagine myself supporting the community in a bigger way as well.

As I grow I’d love to have space where we can feature handcrafted products, formulate, and hold classes. I work with teens as a tutor and I’d love to be able to provide a place where they use math and science skills to create, learn about plants and holistic wellness, and possibly gain work experience. I’ve begun taking classes towards becoming a holistic healthcare practitioner. In a few years, I hope to complete the 1200 hour program and have that to offer as well. I’m looking forward to growing, helping more people, and create new products.
