Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Schmorde.
Tricia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started with a love for dogs as a very young girl. Seeking out stray dogs and feeding and caring for them Dogs seemed to seek me whenever I would go out peoples dogs would come over to me. I was obsessed with the timber wolf and did many papers and studied them as a young teen and school age child. As I got older I studied dog behavior and training techniques on my own picking up on everything I could. Taking dog training classes with my own dog and seeking out the best trainers just so I could study and watch how they worked with dogs.
I wanted to know how dogs communicated the language they understood. I spent a lot of time learning the different training techniques and finding those that were spot on in my opinion as far as getting the message to the dog so they would understand. I had a natural ability to read and understand dogs’ posture, behavior, glances their communication. I starting raising and showing dogs and became very passionate about it as well as training. I spent years raising and showing dogs, but found myself moving to Maui Hawaii and not being able to take my dogs with me, due to quarantine for rabies. I spent two years on the Island of Maui and missing dogs like crazy. I left the Island and moved back to Oregon. I picked up where I left off. Acquired a few top lined European Dobermans and two well-bred Siberian Huskies. I believe in pups being raised under foot, and man’s best friend being a part of the family. So all of my dogs are part of our family and all of my pups are raised under foot. I do basic dog training as well and work out of the home. It is hard to find small breeders that are in home. I pride myself on this. Man’s best friend needs to be raised under foot for proper social development.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road for me. I feel this is what I was destined to do. It has come very easy and natural for me. I knew so much from my interest in dogs at such a young age it came very natural. I worked as a Vet Tech for a short while and had good knowledge. I love both people and dogs, so reaching out to my clients has been easy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the most proud of the way my pups are raised. All my puppies are raised in my home not in a dog kennel. People just don’t understand you can’t get back what is lost during crucial nervous system development at a young age. A kennel raised dog will always have social issues. As a trainer I do not hold large classes, I work one on one with each individual dog. I feel more gets accomplished this way with both the dog and the owner.
