Meet Viridiana Silva of VSILVA Photography in La Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viridiana Silva.

Viridiana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took a leap of faith about 7 years ago after quitting my corporate job to stay home with my now 8 and 10-year-old girls. I was feeling a little lost being a new mom and I knew I needed to do something that I loved and that would also allow me to stay home with my family. I joined the photo ministry at a local church and decided to buy my very first DSLR camera. There I met a wonderful friend who took me under his wing and helped me learn how to use my camera. I then started taking online courses and decided it was definitely something I was passionate about and wanted to explore further.

I began doing lots of research, creating my website, building my portfolio and eventually after lots and lots of hard work VSILVA Photography was born. Since the very beginning of my journey, I knew I wanted to photograph mothers to be, newborns, families and children. Being a mother of 2 and having worked with children I felt that was the most natural choice for me. I began taking photos of my family and friends and then I decided to put an add on a local moms group offering free photos in exchange for letting me practice and use their photos for my portfolio.

I soon started developing my own style and was drawn to the natural candid type of photography. I quickly fell in love with the ability to connect with the families I was photographing and that is when I knew this was what I was meant to do. I can’t say it was all easy and fun, I definitely have had lots of challenges and continue to work through obstacles along the way. I have learned so many valuable lessons that have made me a better person and also a better photographer and business owner.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be a photographer in the beautiful city of San Diego and continue to work hard at growing my business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an entrepreneur has many challenges and benefits alike. Things like time management, self-discipline, and grit are all very important qualities to have when you are running your own business. I love having the freedom and flexibility of making my own schedule and being my own boss however I have encountered many obstacles along the way.

In today’s world, we have access to so much information on the internet that can help you learn and keep your work up to date with the trends of your clients. I am constantly learning new and exciting things that relate to my business. It is also easy to have self-doubt and lose confidence when you compare yourself to others in the industry.

There has been countless times that I have felt inspired by other peoples work and also discouraged or frustrated when something doesn’t turn out how you imagined. I have learned that you can’t compare your work to others since everyone is on a different journey.

Every day I am challenged in a different way, whether it be managing my time well between my business and my personal life or having enough grit to keep going when things are difficult or new. It is not always easy but I absolutely love what I get to do every day.
