Meet Wynn Austin of Wynn Austin Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wynn Austin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
If you asked me when I was in my 20’s, where I would be 10 years from now, I would have never imagined saying that I am an event planner. That was never on my radar. As a child, that is a first-generation immigrant, I was raised to study hard, go to college, and aim for a practical corporate career that would provide financial security. I proceeded with this route and started working for a bank as a teller since I was in high school. I continued on to receive a degree in Finance and worked in the banking industry for 10 years.

Somehow I knew something was missing from my life. I was craving for something more creative but had no idea what I wanted to do. I didn’t even know that wedding event planner even existed! One day I was in a business meeting and out of nowhere, one of my business partners told me that I reminded her of her daughter. I asked what her daughter does and she said that her daughter is a wedding planner in the bay area. A little light bulb turned on! A Wedding Planner? I was intrigued that people did this for a living, so I started my research and was spellbound how many people are out there making beautiful things every day.

I decided that week, that being a wedding & event planner was what I wanted to do. I took some courses, did my research, and set out to start my own business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In every business, there are obstacles! I have faced many obstacles. My original company was called Le Chic Wedding Consulting. When I was out networking, I noticed people were getting me confused with other companies with a similar name. That was after I had spent hundreds of dollars ordering new stationary. That night, I came home, bit the bullet and rebranded my company to my name. It was an expensive change, but something that had to be done.

As event planners, we really face obstacles on a daily basis. Whether, it’s budget restraints, the weather, challenges with the venue or location, we have to always think about how we can move forward. What can we do to solve this issue, or what alternative options we have? My motto is “It always works out in the end!” regardless of the jumps and hoops that we have to do to get there.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wynn Austin Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
In the beginning, I focused on wedding coordination, promoting my ability to handle the logistics and the planning portion. But as I was given more opportunities to be creative, the ideas started flowing and I started coming up with ideas that would even surprise myself! I never knew I was that creative.

My business started evolving into a design company and it became a pertinent part of Wynn Austin Events. Logistics is still imperative in our business and we really pride ourselves in doing our best to be as organized and prepared as possible. For the most part now, when I get contacted, the couple tells me it’s our style that brings them to us. We also do our best to be the one stop shop for our clients. We have built and made custom decor for our events.

We also have an online store called Wynn Austin Collection where we sell items that are hand-curated and handmade from our independent designers. We even style our brides with our jewelry and veil collection. We try our best not to say no and always explore ways to bring their vision to life whether we do it in-house or with our business partners.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Last year, we had the opportunity to do a couple destination weddings outside of San Diego. It was such an amazing experience and definitely gave me a new challenge. I absolutely loved it! I’m hoping that I continue to get more destination opportunities in the future.
