Today we’d like to introduce you to Yaro Trujillo.
Yaro, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when my oldest daughter was 6 months old. It was October and as her dad and I walked past a bin of pumpkins, we remarked that they were so big we could fit the baby inside one of them. Of course, we had to try, so we took it home and carved it up and I took a picture of her sitting inside. The picture was such a hit that all of our friends wanted pictures of their babies in pumpkins too. The next year I invested in a “real” camera and began to offer mini sessions based on the concept. Soon I was offering vintage inspired sessions in laundromats and spring sessions in hand crocheted hats. I branched out into family and newborn sessions, and occasionally weddings.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My original business name was Tiny Footprints Photography. One day I was unable to access my Facebook page, and I discovered that another user had reported me for copyright infringement. She had a photography business in another state that also used the word “footprints,” and I had no choice but to change my business name. Although I was sad to lose my name and have to redesign everything, I really think it turned out for the best. I love using my own name and I love the new logo I designed!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Yaro Jane Photography – what should we know?
There are a LOT of photographers in San Diego, but you won’t find many who offer very high-quality images at low prices. I pride myself on staying affordable, while always turning out beautiful images. Instead of gauging people on print prices after the fact, I give people what they want: full size digital files delivered to you within a week of your session, included in your session fee.
The other thing that my clients are loyal to me for is my personality. I have a knack for making people feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera and have often been told that the pictures I took are the only one’s people like of themselves. I’m also great with kids of all ages and can get the crankiest toddler giggling in no time. People’s personalities show in my images, as do their relationships with their family.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My kids have been my biggest help! Their whole lives they have helped my try out new photo ideas and have been real troopers as I drag them all over town and have them wear what I want and pose how I want. Of course, it can be fun for them too, especially when I want to try out using bubbles or riding trains!
