Meet Yesenia Diaz of Bella Doll Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Diaz.

Yesenia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a natural talent for hair & makeup, so I decided quit my job as a receptionist and enroll myself into Cosmetology school full time. I graduated at the top of my class and went straight into working at a salon as a hairstylist. I remained a hairstylist for 6 years. I enjoyed working with clients to create the right look but working in a salon did not allow me to spread my wings and take on new challenges. I was tied down to a schedule while often getting lured into salon drama. I then decided to pursue my own business in combining makeup with hair and enrolled myself into some makeup courses.

My voyage started small, I created my website, passed out flyers, did some work for free to generate clients, develop business relationships and get my name out there. While working in the salon I loved participating in bridal events & fashion shows. I enjoyed working together as a team with other creative artists to create amazing looks that empower women with confidence to rock the show. I love giving women the extra boost of confidence. Just a few twists of the curling iron and some amazing lashes, allows one to walk into an event & shut it down.

Empowering others is what I find most gratifying and now as a freelance stylist I have the freedom to do it all in my own way. I have since found some great like-minded freelancers along the way and added them to my team to build Bella Doll Beauty.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road overall. My only struggles have been balancing work with family. I am a natural people pleaser and struggle with saying no. I want to fit everyone in, make sure everyone is happy and be a part of important events in their lives. Unfortunately, some of these events fall on weekends when my family is having important events as well. As a result, I had to learn to step back and pass the work on to my team members so that I can live in the moment with my loved ones.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I love to discover new & innovative ways to apply makeup & create updo’s. I specialize in bridal hair & makeup. I am known for my romantic curls & smoke eyes. I am most proud of the relationships I have formed with my clients. I bond with these women when working on them. So it is amazing when I get repeat clients or referrals because I get to meet family members & essentially become a part of their family.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego is an amazing place for my business. Clients fly from all over the country to have their wedding destination here. San Diego has great weather, beautiful ocean views, amazing restaurants making it a great place to get engaged/married,

Our city can improve with parking and venue space. It can be challenging at times finding enough space for an event. Parking can be limited which often can deter clients from having an event held at our prime coastal locations.
