Meet Zhenya Lomeyko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhenya Lomeyko.

Zhenya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am originally from a small town in Ukraine, after high school, I moved to Kharkiv – the second largest city in Ukraine. I have never dreamed or thought I would be a makeup artist. I have always loved math and science, so I got master degree in finance, then I even tried to do my Ph.D. – still was not my passion. I liked working as a financial analyst for a while, but 2008 crisis made me finally realize – I can only dedicate myself fully to the things I am truly passionate about. At that time, I accidentally found a makeup school and decided to learn art of makeup.

Although I had always been interested in fashion and style I treated these courses more like a hobby. I did not really think that makeup will become my business and passion one day. I even cannot remember how I found and chose my first makeup school. But it was a turning point for me. I fell in love with beauty of makeup industry, fashion and started to learn more and more. I got certificated as a makeup artist, then got cerficated as an image-maker and I am still constantly learning. It is a nonstop process for me. I truly enjoy open up the inner beauty of models and show them how makeup can make them more confident in their ability to change the world.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My path has never been a smooth ride. Even now the beauty industry is still challenging for me. We moved to USA in 2011 and first years I felt very uncomfortable in a new country, It took about three years to adapt and start feeling myself home here. Thanks to so many great people I met and of course, to my always supporting family, I started my makeup business in North California. Things were going very well! Five months ago, we moved to San Diego – area full of new opportunities and challenges! It is third time I am restarting my business in a new place – and I cannot be more thankful to all the people who are supporting me in this transition.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am providing makeup and hairstyling services for almost any professional and personal occasion, including advertising, editorials, weddings, production, runway shows, any special events – pretty much a bit of everything. Also, to keep my creativity going and developing, I am doing a lot of creative editorial works as well.

As a little bit of nerd in me, I like details. And I want to make sure that all my clients are getting high-quality services and I do my best every time to understand expectations and exceed them. Every client of mine in my chair – has a different story, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, but all of my clients want to feel more beautiful and confident after our meeting, and I am trying to feel my clients emotionally to understand how I can help them in the best way.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I am thankful to my family and my husband. He is my huge support and motivator as well, without him, I would have never been here and would have never found my dream job. And also my big helpers are my two sons, they are always full of energy and they push me to go ahead for sure – feels like vacation sometimes when I leave kids on my husband to do my job 🙂
