Today we’re excited to introduce you to Michelle Lundqvist. Michelle is a Co-owner of Skoy Enterprises (selling kitchen products) and is also a content partner. Check out our conversation with Michelle below.
Hi Michelle , so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
Hi my name is Michelle Lundqvist and I am one of the owners of Skoy Enterprises, LLC. My business partner is Karen Petersen. We started Skoy Enterprises in 2007 with one product, the Skoy Cloth (Swedish Dishcloth) and we have expanded our product line from there. Our focus has always been on sustainability and creating kitchen products that are superior to those currently on the market. We sell to large retailers like The Container Store, Crate N Barrel, Cost Plus World Market and Amazon and to a lot of small kitchen stores, as well.
What has been the most rewarding part of starting a business ?
The most rewarding part of starting a business is the independence we feel and the accomplishment of succeeding in a venture that was only a seed 15 years ago. We have been in business now for nearly 14 years. We have met some incredible people and business associates through the years that have enriched our lives.
What are the biggest challenges that Skoy Enterprises has faced in the past couple years?
We are a women- owned company and it is just the two of us running every aspect of the business. We outsource everything that we cannot do in house. We outsource our bookkeeping, accounting, digital marketing, graphic design, and product fulfillment. We are always good to our partners! About a year an a half ago, our digital marketing company (Digital Marketing Integrated) and friend stole our ideas and started a competing business selling the same product as us and she was still working for us!! This was absolutely heartbreaking! This was a woman who we saw often and even sat at our dinner table. We saw her in social settings as well as work. This experience has left a bitter taste in our mouth and made us less trusting.
How has Covid affected your business?
Next we have Covid… We really did OK in 2020 and sold a lot of product via Amazon… as everyone was cleaning! In 2021 everything seems to have caught up and we now have some supply chain issues as far as getting product from Europe into the USA. Factories have been closed due to illness and breakouts. We have very long lead times and the transportation side of business is really struggling. If we ship a container from Europe to USA – it is taking about 3 month before we have our hands on the product. The ports are very congested and not working up to an acceptable standard.
Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
