Rising Stars: Meet Alexis Huth of Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Huth.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My first memory of creating skin care products was at 7 years old; convincing my young girlfriends during sleepovers to make our very own watermelon lip gloss together. I was a little girl with a lip gloss obsession and a desire to learn their ingredients. Later as an adult, I struggled buying products like bath bombs from large corporations with long lists of ingredients I couldn’t pronounce printed on the labels. It didn’t feel authentic using these products, let alone buying them for loved ones as gifts. In 2015, I began producing homemade bath bombs with just 5 simple ingredients. It felt good knowing exactly what was in my bath fizzers and I loved making them for other people. Since then, I’ve expanded my production to making homemade soap, non-toxic candles, plastic-free shaving bars, natural lip balm and lotion bars. I deeply enjoyed making these products and decided in July 2020 to make my product line publicly accessible. Grounded Skin was then born to reach others whom like me want to use products on their skin and in their bathrooms that are mindfully created with earth-derived ingredients that naturally nourish & replenish skin.

Taking a relaxing bath and the ritual of cleansing your body at the end of a long day is a time to reset … a time to ground. Grounded Skin was birthed to bring you and our community quality skin care products to help you stay grounded while you care for your skin.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business from the ground up means wearing many different hats – being my own product creator, marketer, social media manager, accountant, packaging designer, etc. This has required me to learn new skills, stretch my capacities and finesse various new abilities. Hands-down this is the largest challenge I’d imagine for any new business curator; along with the sensation that 24 hours a day is not enough time; always more to do and to accomplish. Despite being tiring, it has been gratifying building Grounded Skin and experiencing it come to life. Another challenge for me personally has been expanding my product. The requirements that come with marketing my own brand and products do not come natural for me. It’s the creative elements and natural chemistry of this work that I love which got me here. However, I am learning that this is a crucial aspect of reaching and connecting with the community – which I thoroughly enjoy. Through GS, I have developed meaningful relationships with customers and it fulfills me watching my products positively impact their lives.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
On Grounded Skin’s website, Etsy and social media page, you’ll find my handmade soap collections, natural bath bombs & aromatherapy candles, as well as other seasonal products and featured collections. I am excited to also announce that starting August 2021, Grounded Skin will be offering you monthly subscription boxes full of all your essential products made in seasonal scents and at their lowest prices. GS is currently expanding into various stores throughout San Diego and is actively seeking new partnerships and collaborations with new storefronts.
