Rising Stars: Meet Cassie B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie B.

Hi Cassie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My fiancé and bandmate, Ryan Kilpatrick (bass player) met in a show called Madagascar Live at Sea World San Diego eight years ago. We made a bunch of new musician friends and performed that show for almost two years. Halfway into our second year, we unfortunately got laid off like many other Sea World employees. This felt like a curse, but the true blessings came after that. Many of the performers went on to get great jobs, and Ryan and I started searching for band members to create a killer band. Through the years, we have worked with many different people that helped make us stronger and better. It has all lead to where we are today, with an amazing group of musicians. We have our OG guitarist that we found on Craigslist seven years ago – Robert Rivera. We have Bill Pomerleau on keys, and he brings so much joy to our lives. We snagged Carlos Beltran on the drums, and he brings so much swag to our group. Then Ryan shreds on the bass, and I sing my heart out.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would have to say compared to some bands out there, our road has been super smooth. I’m grateful that we have been lucky to find good honest people to work with. I am a big believer in putting good out, will bring good in. We have definitely had to pay our dues and have played many shows that didn’t make us feel like rockstars one bit… but I think we all knew it was just a part of the journey. Ryan always says playing music always beats diggin a ditch. So ya, there are ups and downs, but at the end of the day, our job is playing music!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are CB Music Productions. We produce high-energy specialized musical shows/groups for events and venues. Our bread and butter is Cassie B Project. We are a top 40s cover band that specializes in getting you up on your feet. We play weddings, special events, and venues around San Diego, and we also travel to Arizona regularly. We add our special flavor to our set, and we always love to put a new spin on songs you know and love. This band can mold to any event or venue. We try to hit every genre and age group.

With that same group of musicians, we have two specialty shows- Cassie B’s 90s Remix and The Millennial Falcons. The 90s remix is everything we grew up in as kids. Ryan was a rocker kid growing up. I was a Britney Spears and *NSYNC fanatic. We play as many genres from the 90s into this 2 hour show.

The Millennial Falcons is our May 4th and Comic Con star. We dress as if the characters of Star Wars were living and playing music today. Skinny jeans and vans shoes, but complete with the specific helmet of each character. We sneak Star Wars tunes into the set and song transitions. It’s magical and so much fun!

In the madness of the pandemic a beautiful new group was formed and created. The DecaDames. This new show features three female vocalists. San Diego’s finest: Whitney Shay, Tanya Mckenna, and myself, Cassie B. The three of us pay tribute to the powerhouse singers and artists throughout the decades. Ranging from The Supremes to Lady Gaga. Three part harmonies and insane lead vocals from each singer are incredible. It’s a very special show. Keep an eye out for it!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
For me, the exchange of energy and happiness is the most important part. Especially now with everything going on around us. We all need a little escape. I take that as my job to create an atmosphere of freedom and to let loose and just have a good time. Music is so powerful. It can take you back to moments in your life, and you almost get to experience them again through the song. It’s so special and important to allow ourselves to leave everything at the door for a night and just sing and dance.
