Today we’d like to introduce you to Dvir Benesh.
Hi Dvir, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
So where should I start? I have so much to tell about myself and my journey, so I’ll try to make it short and sweet. My name is Dvir Benesh, I’m 27 years old, and I’m originally from Israel.
My whole youth back home in Israel, I was mainly working and doing all kinds of sports like soccer, basketball, tennis, skateboarding, and much more! And as a teenager, my life goal was to join the military and serve in special forces. So, after I finished high school, when I was just 18 years old, I joined the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and did long and tough tryouts to join the special forces. As I dreamed my whole life, I made it to be a combat in the special forces. I served there for 3 years, and after my serve I decided that I want to change my direction in life. When I was 21 I decided to travel the world by myself, to explore and see what the big world has to offer me.
After traveling for a few months in Asia and South America, in the beginning of 2018, I decided to come visit my brothers, who were living in San Diego at that time (And still today). I stayed here for a few months to travel the US and spend some time with my family, and eventually, I ended up staying to live in San Diego.
During my time here in the US, I started to get into music. I never had any specific background in music, or I never played any instrument besides some guitar for the girls around the bonfire (Haha). But I always was a big fan of music and admired artists. But where I came from it was different. So, I never thoughts I will really be a musician myself.
When I got to the Us at the age of 23, I discovered and opened to a new world. The music scene here was something like I have never seen before, only in the movies and on YouTube. I became so intrigued and explored different kinds of music. Anywhere from electronic music to Blues and Jazz. I always felt that I have a good sense for music, and I believed that I can be a great DJ one day. So about 4 years ago I decided to go all in, and I bought DJ gear and started to teach myself from scratch. At the first minute, I started to dive into this world and started to practice in Djing, I knew that’s it. This is what I want to do. It felt so smoothly, so naturally, and so right for me. I spent hours and hours every day, into the nights, watching youtube videos and tutorials and taught myself how to mix. I can say confidently that I because very good very quickly. Like it meant to be.
After about 1 year of practicing, I felt confident enough to introduce myself to venues in San Diego and start get my name and experience out there.
At the meantime that I’m making my way into the music world, I started to work in the family business of Home Remodeling in San Diego. Our company called “Forever Builders,” and we are one of the top-rated construction companies in the county.
I worked for almost 4 years in the business as project manager.
I worked 6 days a week, 12-14 hours a day, and at night when I go back home, I focused in study more about music.
I continued to hussle myself and tried to push myself to play in as much more venues as I can.
I played in San Diego in clubs like Bloom, Pool House, Fire House, Avenue, and many more other productions and events
After couple of years of djing in San Diego, I decided that I want to go as far and as high as I can and want to start produce my own music. I started to learn some fundamentals from the internet, but I knew I need to do something bigger. So, I decided that I want to go to a music school to learn music production, and I looked for the best music school.
I researched and heard about an academy in LA that called “Icon Collective,” and that is one of the best music schools in the world. Top shelve Alumni graduated in this school.
So, in 2021 I applied for the their program, and after hard work, I got accepted 1 out of 20 from thousands that applying every year. I was so excited and proud in myself.
So last December 2021, I moved from San Diego to LA for 1 year to join the school.
Currently, I’m living in North Hollywood in LA, investing my whole time and focus and studying music and promote myself as a DJ and Producer. Recently I started to release my own music, that soon will be in the streaming services.
I’m playing and making House and Techno music, focusing and Melodic House.
Recently I had one of my biggest achievements so far after I played at “Avalon Hollywood” a club that ranked in the top 50 clubs in the world.
I have big plans and goals to the future; this is only the beginning. Stay tuned!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never smooth and easy to start a career from scratch. The fact that I’m not a San Diego native, and don’t have connections or friends that can help me and give me opportunities, left me to do everything by myself. It was required from me a lot of work, effort, husseling, patience, and consistency. Everywhere I go, I introduce myself and trying to get an opportunity. I got many “NOs,” and many people ignored me, but I never gave up. And when I found my way, and I got one opportunity, I proved myself more than expected.
Also, the fact the I had no background and experience in music before was required from me to learn everything from zero, and it’s a lot! At the time that I’m trying to work hard and make a living.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So, I’m a DJ of House and Techno music. I’m known as “WNDRMAN” in the industry. That my stage name. WNDRMAN its Wonder Man if you wondered (Haha), like Wonder Woman? Just Man. And by the way, Gal Gadot and I we both Israelis (Haha). I was thinking about this name because I think I have a lot of capabilities and talents, and I can do anything I want. Also, I will tell you a small secret. A part of it is because since I’m a kid, I always have dreams that I have superpowers and I’m always saving the world somehow. Until today. And I’m not even a big fan of comics or something like that.
In Techno and House music, there are a lot of subgenres that are very unique and different than the others.
My style is Melodic House, Organic House, Progressive House, and Afro House. Those genres are known for their diversity in sound design and creativity, and the use of Organic drums and percussion in the songs.
I like to use in my music a lot of Organic and Afro-Cuban drums and percussions. These sounds and music are touching your inner soul and make you feel connected to the nature and earth.
When I’m playing a set, I always want to give my crowd and audience a unique feeling. A roller coaster of energy and emotions. I always believe in playing a new music that I think not a lot of people heard before. Always trying to bring something else to the table. You will barely hear me playing a top radio hit that you will hear in any club.
What does success mean to you?
Success for me is be the best form of yourself. Always believe in yourself that you can accomplish anything you want, setting up goals, chase after them, manifest them, and achieve them when the opportunity is at the door.
And when you achieved what you wanted, doesn’t matter what it is, spiritually, mentally, physically, or materially, this is success.
