Rising Stars: Meet Emily Binkowski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Binkowski.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Good Scribes Only was a concept that lived rent-free in my mind for years before I could even articulate what it might actually look like. I liked to rhyme. I was good at it. I’d put together little birthday jingles for friends and the crowd would go wild (crowd being a few close friends sitting around a table typically but a crowd nonetheless). Then the pandemic hit and I suddenly had more time on my hands than I was used to. For someone who is admittedly restless and drinks way more coffee than she should, I decided to whip up a website and see what could come of this little passion project.

Soon, word of mouth started to spread and I was working on not just birthday toasts, but congratulatory gifts for newly engaged couples. Then, wedding season started and with COVID-19 serving as just a minor thorn amongst countless wedding bouquets, I helped over two dozen couples commemorate their mini-monies with speeches, toasts, and keepsakes that ultimately helped COVID couples turn their lemons into lemonade.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started, I could not have done less homework. Were their competitors in the poem/toast/speech writing field? Who knew?! Was there a certain amount I should be charging for my time, and should this differ by occasion? Bore someone else with these questions!

I was pretty much throwing spaghetti on the fridge and seeing what would stick, until I realized that while this was fun for me, and luckily our customers, too, as it started to grow, I had to get smart about running this business.

So, I made an Instagram account. I talked to other local business owners and connected with local entrepreneurs. I reached out to vendors in the wedding space and luckily found some incredible companies that were open to partnering and sharing my services on their own platforms.

The rest is history in the making, and I’m loving every second of the story.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Good Scribes Only is a poem, toast, and speech writing service for any dang occasion. From promotions to layoffs, engagements to weddings, birth announcements to eulogies, any milestone you can think of we see as a reason to celebrate.

We’re most proud of the fact that we’re taking a task that, for most, is daunting, anxiety-inducing, and downright terrifying, and turning it into a seamless opportunity to simply rave about your loved ones. Our clients fill out a brief questionnaire which allows them to select the occasion at hand, the recipient, desired tone (humorous/romantic/etc.), and then finally, a section for them to gush. By sharing all of their inside jokes, memories, and anecdotes that they’d like included in the poem/speech/toast, it really couldn’t get more personal. Which is what our clients really love about our services.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Feedback. Feedback. Feedback. At Good Scribes Only, it is absolutely *critical* that the final product speaks to you, to your recipient at hand, and for lack of better term *lands* with what you’re looking for. We offer our clients the ability to request any edits/tweaks before the final product is delivered, which often times gives them the opportunity to add in last-minute inside jokes or details that may have slipped their mind the first time around.

What’s great about our services is they’re incredibly customizable. You’re working with a person, yours truly, who not only has a passion for words (and often times, can’t shut up!) but more so a passion for turning your moments into magic; a keepsake that will last forever.
