Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Garcia.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was always interested in the beauty industry; I honestly thought at one point I wanted to be a makeup artist. I prolonged it for years and tried making community college work for me, but I knew that wasn’t my calling. After having my second baby girl, my husband then encouraged me and pushed to start cosmetology school. I went to tour Paul Mitchell, the school in downtown San Diego and loved it; I felt like I belonged. My baby was only six months at the time, so I thought maybe I should wait until she turned a year to commit to being a student once again. My husband thought I should go for it and just do it! That same month I went and enrolled, being a working mom and night school student was definitely a challenge and this went on for two years. With all the love and support I received from my family, I was able to complete all my hours. Three months later, I had my state board test and passed 🙌🏽 I have now been a licensed cosmetologist for a little over a year and don’t regret a minute of it! I love transforming people; I love seeing their reactions once I turn the chair around. I love bonding and being their confidant. This industry has so much to offer, much more than doing just hair.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely a struggle, missed a lot of time being away from my family. Very long days! But on the other hand smooth being able to build a clientele for myself, I’ve been blessed to receive a lot of support.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love blonding and recently started hand-tied extensions; that’s what 98% of my clientele comes to see me for. What I do the most of is a Foilyage; this is a balayage but in foils. I am most proud of being able to build so quickly into my career and being able to open my own studio with my partner. It has been my biggest accomplishment so far.
I believe what sets me apart from others is the bond I create with each and every single person that sits in my chair, I genuinely care for every single client that supports me and my craft!
What are your plans for the future?
As of now, just keep building our/studios brand. I would’ve never seen myself where I am at this point in my life and what I do, just going with the flow and letting things happen.
