Today we’d like to introduce you to Levi Thomas.
Hi Levi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I always had an ear for music but pushed it to the side as a kid to play baseball. After I quit baseball in high school, I was searching for opportunities to strengthen other passions, and music kinda came floating back into my life as I started teaching myself how to play bass and piano. One thing led to another, and I was the singer in a band with my friends, but after graduating high school, I was stuck searching once again. I was dormant from music for a while, but when the pandemic hit, I decided to cure my quarantine boredom by downloading Ableton and producing. This ultimately turned into songwriting, and I had a moment where I asked myself, “why don’t I just start making my own music?” I felt like I had nothing to lose, so I hit up my friend Bere who’s an engineer, and we started to work. We finished up songs, released them, I started playing shows and putting myself out there, and now I’m beginning to emerge.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like my path has been fairly okay thus far, considering I’ve just started these last couple years. I think the biggest struggle has been myself and my confidence. It’s so unbelievably easy to go on my Instagram and lose all motivation, especially when I see all these other established artists my age who are on every playlist, playing festivals, and are already signed to a big label. I’ve just been trying to stay in my own lane, and keep my own pace, be original, and just do me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make music. I love to sing, play different instruments, perform with a live band, and just create beautiful art to put out into the world. I love nothing more than having a crowd invested and interested in my music, and the feeling of having the crowd in the palm of your hand is unbeatable. I’ve been on a couple popular playlists and social media posts and have been recognized by a few music industry creatives, but there’s a lot more to be done.
What do you think about happiness?
Being with the people I love the most makes me the happiest. Whether I’m out on an adventure or simply at home doing nothing with them, it brings me immense joy to be around the people I love. Music definitely makes me happy, too, especially creating it with friends. Or even listening to a song for the first time or seeing your favorite artist live for the first time. I just saw Mac Demarco and The Strokes last weekend for the first time, and it was so unbelievable. I’ve looked up to those guys for years.
