Today we’d like to introduce you to Raina Elegado.
Hi Raina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi everyone! My name is Raina Elegado, a 33-year-old local mom blogger. I’ve been married to the love of my life for almost 9 years and we have 3 little kids: Scarlett (6), Landon (5) and Liam (3). I grew up in San Diego and went to Rancho Bernardo High School, where I met my husband. Then I went to Cal State Fullerton where I was a double major in Dance and Communications, emphasis on Broadcast Journalism. After college, I moved back to San Diego. I had internships at KUSI and 10News only to ultimately realize that I wanted to pursue my passion in life, dance. I went on to teach at local dance studios and became a Pure Barre instructor. Then I became the Dance Coach at Escondido High School then the Musical Production Coordinator at Gompers Preparatory Academy.
I created my blog, The Mama Queen, in 2016 when I was on maternity leave with my 2nd child. I was still working full-time then. I started my blog and growing my social media because I love being able to share snippets of my mom life, current fashion trends I love and go-to beauty products with my followers. I enjoy taking pictures and writing too. After 3 years of hard work and consistency (plus a super supportive husband), I decided to quit my job and work on my blog full-time as a stay-at-home mom. Life can get super crazy as a SAHM plus working on my brand and partnerships but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being able to raise my kids and do what I love is an absolute blessing!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Working as a blogger and social media influencer definitely comes with obstacles and challenges. A lot of people may think that it’s all about taking pictures, adding filters and writing quick captions but it’s way more than that. There’s a lot of planning ahead or sometimes, in my case, rushing to get things done by a deadline (because kids lol). On top of everything that mom life consists off… as a blogger/influencer: you have to apply for collaborations, come up with ideas for blog posts/IG content/TikTok content, take the time to create/shoot the content, edit the content, amplify your content on other social media platforms (Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, etc.), make sure your photos and videos are up to par, post daily on IG and stories, link products that you post, engaging with your followers and answering DMs, responding to emails and manage collaboration deadlines. I know I’m probably missing more but you get the picture.
A challenge for me is not knowing when to stop working since I have no set time to start/stop work. I am always striving to find the perfect work/life balance. Even on family trips and vacations, for most people, it’s time to unwind but for a blogger, that’s when I can get amazing and “out of the norm” content.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Whenever I face a challenging day, I always try to remind myself that I am so blessed to be able to do what I love while raising my kids full-time. This is what I dreamt of ever since I had my first child. I’ve learned to accept that some days I’m a mom more and other days I’m a blogger more and that’s ok. My kids’ needs will always be my top priority though. After years of learning from my mistakes, I’ve realized that the only way to prevent unnecessary stress is to always be prepared and have a plan. I always have a daily to-do list and a content idea list which has been a major help.
