Rising Stars: Meet Sandy V

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy V.

Hi Sandy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started surf skating because I’ve skated since I was 3 years old and I started surfing around 12-14 and I always loved mixing the two. doing maneuvers like the infamous z-boys and trying to get low and execute the same turns on land and water. I saw my first surf skate about 4 years ago. a family friend had a custom one, with carver trucks and a deck I don’t remember. the second I stepped on I felt a rush of energy like a connection I never had to a sport before. I fell in love instantly. I never started it to be famous or be the “hey look at me and what I can do” kinda guy. I just did it because ultimately, I was surfing outside of the water, getting a workout, and practicing form and maneuvers I couldn’t always do in the water. well about 4 years of surf skating goes by doing all this stuff and it was right before my birthday when my friends and I were at my house in San Diego, and we were watching the pros that are out in surf skating today. well after my friends what the videos they started comparing me to the skaters and saying how I should start putting my name out there. considering I never thought the sport would take me anywhere I quickly neglected the thought. but thankfully after persistence from my friends, I sent a couple of short clips surf skating to a couple companies. the reaction I got from that was unbelievable saying things in the email like “we have never seen this done on our board before” “COME OUT WITH A VIDEO PART” well given that exclamation from companies I have grown to love and purchase skate parts from on a regular basis, I hastily made mt first video called “ten toes down” I had 4 sponsors for my first video and now I have surpassed that number unbelievably. I have reached over 110,000 followers in TikTok as well as recently collaborated or currently sponsored with the companies following, waterborne skateboards, sharkwheel, rastaclat, threadbeat, endless weekend, surfwater, bulkhead energy, tailor shape skateboards, local h20, fat boy surf club, fission energy, spice skate skateboards, and many more. I didn’t realize but from the start I had a dream for this sport. it is beautiful, so fluid but raw at the same time. it’s truly a feeling of adrenaline anytime I step on the board. I have also grown my collection from 4 boards in February of 2022 to over 45! all boards ranging from the 50s-today. and every style and shape I use I try to keep the energy of the zephyr competition skateboard team alive.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not knowing if sponsors would even be interested. the first step was a leap of faith

Learning everything myself and not mainstream

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a surf skater, I’m know either for skating or social media. I want to have something to be proud of to share but I don’t. not yet. I am SandyV haha, I add a little of my style to everything. I never watched a single tutorial video on how to skate, I watched my favorite pros from the ’70s-’90s and copied them.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Pat CEO of waterborne skateboards has helped me unbelievably to become what I have in the short time frame I’ve been a part of this sport

My friends who told me to try it or else I never would’ve made the first step.

My girlfriend for supporting me and pushing/making me skate sometimes and film
