Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Randall.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I bought our first home back in 2017. To be totally transparent, we used all of our money to get this house (hello, California real estate prices!) and didn’t have extra to make it our own. We quickly realized that if we wanted to make changes, we were going to have to figure out how to do it ourselves. With no previous experience, we started tackling home projects on our own- everything from sanding and refinishing our original wood floors to gutting and remodeling our entire kitchen!
After a year of consistently showing our projects on Instagram, we started getting requests for room makeovers all over the country. Long story short…over the past year, we’ve been in 17 different states transforming spaces! It has been a crazy, adventurous year full of amazing design projects!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! The first year of sharing on Instagram was a mental battle. I was not used to being in front of a camera every day, and I was nervous about what other people would think of this new pursuit. In year two, we were in full-on “start-up” mode. I worked seven days a week for months and months. It took a lot of time and dedication to build up the following we now have and complete all of the room makeovers quickly and efficiently. So much planning goes into each and every project!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I share DIY and design projects on my Instagram every week. Some weeks we are flying across the country to do a 3-day room makeover, and sometimes I spend the week transforming a kids toy Jeep, but I’m always tackling some type of transformation! I share all of the steps as I work so others can learn along with me. You can count on me for very satisfying “before and after” reveal posts!
One of the most rewarding parts of what I do is inspiring other women to not be afraid to pick up power tools for themselves and just start! I had never even used a drill when I started all of this…so if I can do it, you can too!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I pack for trips the morning of. Jake doesn’t love this about me. 😉
So much goes behind the scenes of every single project! My audience usually sees me arrive on a project and go from start to finish in just a few days. Before every quick room makeover, there were hours and hours of planning and prep.
Also, I think my followers would be surprised to know how many trolls we deal with on Instagram! I don’t show a lot of that side on my account because I like to keep the content positive, but it’s something that (I’ve learned) comes with every account as they grow a bigger audience.
