Rising Stars: Meet Val & Jenn of East County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Val & Jenn.

Hi Val & Jenn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Our story began in 2000, when two 14 year old girls were walking to the bus stop. From that day, a friendship blossomed, and has stood the test of time for over two decades. Although our adult lives have taken us on different journeys, we have come together to start a podcast in our thir(teas) discussing our similarities and differences on numerous topics.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We wouldn’t call the road smooth; it has definitely been bumpy. It started when we did not know what equipment to buy. Then it followed with us not knowing how to use it correctly. Once we finally figured it out, we had to search for a platform to upload to and also learn how to self-promote our up-and-coming podcast while juggling full-time jobs. We now find ourselves trying diligently trying to maintain a good recording schedule while dodging the curveballs life throws our way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are known for our podcast Lifeafterthirtea, where we discuss weekly topics that are relevant in our current stages of life. This is our passion project, and although we both have jobs in the education field, we would eventually like for this to become our full-time endeavor. What sets us apart from others is our 20 plus years of friendship that allows us to have open and honest conversations, even when discussing topics that are sometimes difficult and we do not agree on.

What matters most to you?
Aside from the obvious family and friends that are so important to us, in regards to the podcast, what matters most to us is our authenticity. We always make sure to have open and honest dialogue with our listeners, allowing them a chance to voice an opinion on any topic that is being discussed or give suggestions on future episodes. One of the best parts of having the podcast is hearing the feedback from our listeners. We love when they are able to relate to our topics as if they were part of the conversation as well. The critiques are equally as helpful because without them we would not be able to become better creators.
