Hi Samantha, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
Hello! I’m Samantha Hua, owner of Happy Food since 2009. As a former wildlife biologist, I traveled around the world engaging with communities abroad and studying animals. Each time I came back to the U.S., I noticed family and the general population gaining more weight and suffering from diseases. At the time, nutrition was simply an interest until I realized we have a self-compassion deficit especially with health, nutrition, and overall body image.

I started my business thinking I would educate people about health and nutrition. I quickly learned that being healthy is so much more! I had no idea that my own struggles with life and decades of rewiring my brain became the foundation of my program. I realized how much we all have in common and helping my clients get down to the root cause of the problem, changing mindset, and getting rid of obstacles are far more effective than calorie counting, dieting, and self-discipline.

Why do people call you and what do they get out of working with you?
Most people call me because they want to lose weight. What they get out of it is far more than they expected because all aspects of our life are connected. How can you lose weight if you’re stressed out in your career, eat emotionally to numb your problems, etc? I hear all sorts of results including weight loss, more energy, happier, more balanced, sleep better, less cravings, less emotional eating, better parenting, better marriage, better boundaries with work, family, and friends, more confidence, etc. We are more complex than calories in and calories out. I love seeing these life changing results.

Is there a common thread with your clients?
Most of us are driven (counter-productively) by fear. We fear we are not thin enough, successful enough, smart enough, etc. Sometimes, I think I provide my clients the space to feel like they are simply ENOUGH and wonderful results happen when we remove the pressures that only keep us from metabolizing efficiently and not being able to reach our goals. Guilt, shame, and judgment actually hinder progress. I believe it’s all about learning how to be in the driver seat of your life and not aiming for perfection which too many of my clients do (often times unknowingly).

Why should people call you?
If you’re looking to thrive in your body, feel confident, and understand health, nutrition, and the mind-body loop, then give yourself the opportunity to make an educated decision. Start with a free 30-minute phone consultation and see if this is the right match for you. You’ve got nothing to lose.

What’s your why? Why do you do what you do and what do you love most about it?
I started this business because I wanted to help people, and nutrition was interesting to me. Honestly, after years of field biology, I just wanted a bed, roof, and community without camping and moving all over the world chasing animals (which was the best career at the time). Once Happy Food opened, it provided me with so much more. I had the opportunity to help people just like me. I struggled so much in my youth and most of my adult life. The more people I speak to, the more I realized that we are more alike than we are different. We are not alone in our need to be seen, heard, and understood. Once we learn how to build our foundation, whether or not it was provided to us in our childhood, we make better decisions with our health, diet, relationships, and life in general. It’s been more rewarding than I could have imagined. I think my reward comes from spreading the gospel of joy, something many people lack.

Alright, so before we go, how can our readers connect with you to learn more and show support?
