#SDCreatives: the local artists who inspire us

Through a mix of mediums, formats and perspectives local artists illuminate the unknown, color the previously black-and-white and add depth to our understanding of our surroundings, our lives, circumstances and more. Through our research process for the Thought provokers series we’ve come across so many works of art that have inspired us and we’d like to share some of those great examples of visual and performing arts, photography and other creative works with you below.

Spirals have been my thing lately. This 🌀 is a collaboration of treasures I found near Topaz Mountain (Picture Rock, Opal, Obsidian, Topaz Quarts, & Beryllium). I've been feeling some unusual downward spiraling and somehow along this process there is a certain sense of comfort. Without a doubt this peace is stems from the compassionate care offered to me by my support system, as well as my dedication to mindfulness practice. For that I am infinitely grateful. Each thought, belief, feeling, action, reaction, interaction, or experience feels like an opportunity to spiral movement up or down, forward or backward. I feel a new sense of openness to all of what may come my way. Maybe for the first time in my life. I guess I'm publicly sharing my intention of consciously responding to life one moment at a time so that I can foster movement in the direction of my values, goals, needs, and dreams. But seriously, I'm interested if anyone else out there is also feeling intensities in emotion or circumstance right now?!

So it's been a while since I've done #fridayintroductions, and since there are a few new faces following me, which totally warms my ❤️, I wanted to say HELLO and share what I've been up to! I haven't been as active on posting lately largely in part to the fact that Im a night time student. For those who don't know me, I am currently finishing up my last prerequisite class (Micro 😣) to apply for the nursing program next year, one of my passions is women's care and I hope to one day work in L&D……so that takes a lot of time along with working full time, having three children and running my own business! Needles to say I have been physically and mentally drained lately 💆but the semester is almost half way done!!! Yay!! I believe you can pursue what you love. It will always be hard work getting there but if you do what you love, in the end it won't be work. I'm also looking forward to the all the sweet families I will be capturing in the next few weeks for the holidays! Excited about tomorrow's hike ☀️⛰!!!Any hikers out there? 🙋Double tap for that! And although sleeping in sounds so enticing, physical activity really helps me feel so much better! Followed by lots of studying, a baby shower and a movie 🎥night with my cousin 👯….girl nights are always fun! What are your plans for the weekend? 📸🏃🏽‍♀️#ocphotographer #socalphotographer #southerncalifornia #thatsdarling #darlingweekend #darlingmovement #livethelittlethings #theeverygirl #theverydaygirl #glitterguide #communityovercompetition #girlprenuer #bosslady #workingmom #familyphotographer #portraitphotography #engagementphotographer #weddingphotographer #makeportraitsnotwar #livethelife #photooftheday #instagood #pursuitofhappiness #dowhatyoulove #cyndymorrisonphotography #nevergiveupyourdreams #outdoorslife #goldenwestcollege

Its finally occurred to me that I've never done an introduction post 🙊🙈 so here it is: My name is Kami Sparks. Im a single momma to the most beautiful, funny and endearing 18month old baby girl; we are blessed to live in beautiful San Clemente, CA. I operate out of Orange County but am available worldwide. I have been a professional photographer for the past 6 years, but just started this instagram page last fall. My other page (@kamisparksphoto) is boudoir and fine art focused; whereas this one showcases every other form of photography I am capable of. Why I'm different: I cater to my clients personal needs and desires. If you want a light and airy shoot, let's do it. Dark and moody? My personal fave. Sunset at the beach? Golden hour it is! Rainy day in the middle of a forest? Hell yes I'll bring a poncho! Bring your pup along for the ride? Yes please! I work with my clients to achieve their vision no matter what that may be. Not just a wedding photographer: I am capable of doing every type of photography there is: weddings, boudoir, fine dining, portraits (family, graduation, newborn), products, editorial, high fashion, landscape, you name it; although my personal favorites are weddings and boudoir. There is something so amazing about being a part of someone's forever love story; capturing moments that occur only once in a lifetime. For boudoir: I love empowering women, making them feel beautiful and sexy in their own skin, and creating one of the most meaningful gifts for their SO to be cherished forever. My job isn't a job at all, it's a passion for capturing lifelong memories and moments. Let's be friends! I'm always looking for vendors to connect with and awesome clients to work with! My inbox is always open ♥️☺️ Here's to a great weekend everyone! Cheers!! 🍻✨ (Photo by the talented @kaysenphotography who I have the honor to call a mentor and friend since I first had a real interest in photography back in high school)

Hi! Nice to meet you! I’m Elexia, the founder and creative director of @Artelexia. I wanted to take a second to introduce myself for those of you who haven’t met me yet. I’m a creative entrepreneur with a love for gatherings 🎉, travel 🛫, and design. Through community events, creative workshops 🎨, fundraising, and nurturing up-and-coming artists, I enjoy sharing the festive and colorful customs of my culture with everyone who will listen. Hence our slogan and hashtag #BringingMexicoToYou 🇲🇽💖 🙋🏻‍♀️ I was born in San Diego and grew up in Tijuana, but crossed the border every day to go to school. I'm a Leo born in 1981 to teenage parents – I can't believe how young they were! I'm super grateful to them, they are the most loving and supportive parents any lucky kid ✨✨could ask for. I'm the oldest of 4. Artelexia started out as a farmer's market stand in 2009 selling Mexican gifts and home decor. My dad and I would wake up at 4:30 am to go set up our tent and work the booth. We did this every weekend for 1 year! 😅 In 2010, Artelexia opened its first brick-n-mortar retail space. 👆🏽 Head on over to our insta highlights to learn a little bit more about me and my Artelexia journey! Also, I’d love to get to know you. If you have a second, please introduce yourselves and tell me where you’re from in the comments below! 🤗💖

Portable Outdoor Studio . This is my favorite kind of morning. 💖Breathing fresh air first thing in the morning & soaking in the rising sun’s energy and warmth while drawing, writing, reading, or taking a nap on the beach or at the park. . When we draw everyday and anywhere, a sore back or neck is going to hurt our productivity and health. I recently invested in a low folding table to take with me whenever I go to the park or beach. This little table has helped support my back tremendously! (What you don’t see in this picture is that the flat surface can be slanted so you don’t have to bend your neck eternally to draw. 😆) . It makes such a big difference to draw outdoor than indoor, although they each have their own pros and cons. But when I’m drawing outside, ideas come to me quicker and my mind doesn’t feel trapped. I also feel more connected to my surroundings because I am surrounded by people walking around me. Try it out! 😉
