Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Lanot.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I struggled with skin issues all through my earlier years. Mysterious rashes, weird reactions to certain ingredients in products, and insanely painful cystic acne… you name it, I experienced it. I tried everything in my teenage power to treat, cover, camouflage and hide my face. It was only after high school that I applied for a front desk job to support myself through college that I discovered the power of aesthetics. I had my first facial. I was exposed to quality, professional skincare and healthy skin maintenance started to become a part of health and wellness plan. My passion for makeup and skincare blossomed into a desire to completely reshape my future and seek a career in esthetics. I manned the front desk at The Loft Hair Design & Skincare while I enrolled, completed and passed my board certification, I worked as the solo esthetician for a decade before the salon unexpectedly and sadly closed its doors in May 2016. While my whole professional world was completely crashing, I was not afraid. It was the end of an era but it felt like an opportunity to really show what I had learned, absorbed and achieved over the past decade. I opened my skincare studio, Luxe Skin Lounge, the following month and have been thriving as a self-motivated boss lady ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a quintessential introvert, it has always been a struggle to self promote and network with others. I can be shy, standoffish and awkward and become extremely zapped after too much socializing. So naturally, it was a challenge adapting to single-handedly wearing all the hats that usually operate a successful salon. Luckily, I had some experience. Being a solo esthetician in a busy salon meant that I usually had to take charge of a lot of the responsibilities of the Skincare and Spa department. My front desk skills definitely came in handy for booking my own clients, placing orders, managing inventory, answering messages, power booking, prebooking, and running monthly promotions and referral incentives. It is very easy for me to feel burnt out on a normal day just spent with clients, not to mention all those other things! So, my biggest piece of advice would be to take a day to unplug and disconnect from emails, texts, phone calls, social media, etc., and just relax!
What should we know about Luxe Skin Lounge? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I offer all the typical services expected; facials, peels, and waxing but I specialize in custom tailored skincare. I really like to take the guesswork out of my client’s hands and do a thorough skin reading before each and every treatment. Skin is a living, breathing element that can tell a lot of about someone’s physical, mental and emotional health so it is important to assess each time and cater the treatment to what my client needs addressing that day. I have always aimed to achieve the perfect blend of clinical correction and total relaxation in my treatments. Kind of like a mullet: I am all business in the front but a party in the back. My treatments start off pretty intense with questions, choosing the correct treatment protocol, performing the treatment and then the fun starts with either pressure point facial massage, LED therapy, Ultrasonic massage, soothing masks, aromatherapy and 20 min of body massage. I have always liked the idea of being the best of both worlds when it comes to the spa experience, not too sterile yet not too fluffy
