Art & Life with Tommy Khuong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Khuong.

Tommy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was always interested in photography since high school because I took a photography class which really brought out my creativity with all the projects I was assigned. However, I never owned a camera until the year 2016 when my sister approached me if I wanted to split a canon t3i with her for $300. Eventually, we bought the camera from a friend and I started to use it a lot whenever I go on adventures such as in LA or SD area. It wasn’t until the year 2017 is when I decided to share my portraits to the world by creating an Instagram for my photography and edit the photos to show my creativeness. However, in the middle of 2018 to the present, my passion of photography grew even stronger when I started to get random requests from strangers who saw my work on the explore page asking if they want to collaborate with them. To me, I find it flattering that my friends and strangers want shoot with me because it shows that there are people who do love my work!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I do a lot of portraits for my photography because it allows me to be very creative with my surroundings and bring out the colors for each picture whether it is working with props such as neon lights or showcasing my friends’ outfits. For the source of inspiration, I follow a bunch of photographers on Instagram to gain new ideas on creating new portraits for my artwork.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
Even though there have been a lot of issues in the world, I don’t let that distract me from my photography and just focus on how I can be more creative with my portraits.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I use Instagram to display my portraits. My Instagram is @tkhuongshots and people can support me by following my page since I am trying to gain more exposure for my work!
