Check out Optimus Volts’ Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Optimus Volts.

Optimus, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My name is Isaac Coronado, but my artistic name is Optimus Volts. As a child, I liked making sculptures using recycled materials and sketching with graphite. I quickly moved on to painting with watercolors and acrylics. I use art as a way to express my thoughts and feelings.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I call my style “bitches” to represent the destruction of spray paint cans that I cut into billion pieces to create wall sculptures. I get 80% of my material from other graffiti artists that don’t need their spray paint cans. Are use every component from the tip of the can to the ball that’s inside.

I get satisfaction by seeing people’s reaction. It typically stops people in their tracks, and their jaws drop. At first, they want to touch the sharpness of the pieces and then quickly ask about the material on my art.

The take away from my pieces is that you can take materials that are discarded and turn them into beautiful pieces of art that can be enjoyed for years. My style of art also helps the environment by reducing the amount of trash produced on earth.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Well, that’s a good question, financial challenges for an artist. My heart is based on found objects and recycled objects that I use even old canvases and repurposed them to even use the word. Sometimes we don’t have the budget to buy supplies to create so we have to be creative by using what’s around us. Even looking for donations of art materials to help create the next project. So I tell other artists that there are supplies all around you, you just need to open your eyes. For example I used to use discarded makeup that my mom and sister did not use to make life drawing sketches and paintings with the makeup.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have all my future and past exit vision is listed on my website and social media.
