Meet Kady Masaitis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kady Masaitis.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Born and raised on the east coast in a small town in Massachusetts, I’ve always been drawn to the beach and the vibes of California. After getting my degree (in political science lol, not in anything art related) I made the move with no job, or place to live, and only $800 to my name.

A lot of my life, I felt invisible. I felt like I had to go out of my way to be seen and to be heard and to release all of my emotions. When life gets hard, or sad, or lonely… or when it’s so good I’m filled with so much happiness I need to express it, art has always been there.

Photography, in particular, has always been special to me because of the way one single photo captures a thousand memories. Everyone who looks at a photo remembers the time differently. One photo can tell a lot of stories.

Photos also helped me share my stories with my family and gave me the creative outlook I didn’t know I needed. Photography brings me a new appreciation for small moments.

Please tell us about your art.
I express myself. I feed my soul through photography, videography, content creation, and writing. I am still a lost artist. I’d like to be able to categorize myself, and my work, because damn, it would be so much easier to advertise and make money if I had any direction, but in all honesty, my work is all over the place. Not to say I’m not open to the idea of photographing and filming big events like elopements, weddings, graduations, etc., I just feel like my heart is in the small moments, and that my art is the best when that is what I’m capturing.

For example, friends flailing through a sunroof, or a bonfire on the beach, intimate moments like that that you might otherwise forget unless there was a random photograph from that time.

I also published my first poetry book to Amazon earlier this year, which was super exciting!

My message is that life is made up of the small moments, and if you can find joy in the every day, you will appreciate life more and find the beauty in everything.

I hope people notice the normalness of my photos. That not all the places, people, or things I photograph are extravagant. They are everyday things.

A few quotes I get inspiration from are “life is what happens while you are busy making other plans” and “life is made of small moments like this.”

I shoot on a rebel t6i and edit in Lightroom.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice is to stay true to who you are. Don’t worry about finding your “brand” or your “image” and “style.” Just do you, edit what you think looks good, share what makes your heart feel something, and never ever hold anything back.

This industry will try to put you into a box, try to limit you and label you. If you stick to you, then you will stand out, and if you put your heart into it, then you can never go wrong.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
To stay up to date with my most recent photography, my Instagram @beachbum_fx is definitely kept up with the most.

I also post all of my videos on youtube, under my name, Kady Masaitis.

Lastly, my website www.beachbumfx.com.

To show your support for me, hire me! My favorite photography is for brands, but I’m open to every and anything.

The best way to show your support for my work though, is to reach out to me personally and tell me any effect it has had on you, or any motivation for me to keep doing what I’m doing, because in a world FULL of people doing the exact thing you are, it’s hard to muster up the will to keep posting and keep putting my work out there.
